Flight 1 (11 Notes)

  • 2013 Norman Hardie Calcaire 86 Points

Canada, Ontario, Prince Edward County VQA

Fairly simple and middle of the road, but I do like the leanness and high acid. A blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Melon de Bourgogne. The nose is essentially neutral and low intensity with grass, green vegetation and lemon/lime citrus. A touch of lees is noted on the aromatic and palate. Palate is a touch sour with high acid. Nice wine but ultimately simple.

  • 2014 Norman Hardie Pinot Gris 87 Points

Canada, Ontario, Prince Edward County VQA

This pours quite light in colour. The nose of honey and florals with a touch of honeydew melon and concrete dust. The palate is fairly lean, linear, high acid and a touch sour. Essentially dry. Unremarkable but a decent quaffer that would be good with food

  • 2014 Norman Hardie Riesling 91 Points

    Canada, Ontario, Ontario VQA

Quite an aromatic and fun nose on this wine. In it's youth it's blasting green jolly rancher, kaffir lime leaf, intense florals, bergamot oil, lime syrup, and camomile tea. Just the right amount of sugar on the palate with high, tight lime tinged acid. I quite like this!

  • 2012 Norman Hardie Chardonnay Unfiltered 91 Points

Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Niagara Peninsula VQA

This pours a moderate golden straw yellow. The nose is rich leaning with mint, toasted almond, marshmallow, candied lemon peel, burn sugar and poached pear. The palate is nice with high acid and a pinch of marshmallow sweetness. The finish is medium in length replaying the burn sugar notes. Quite enjoyable.

  • 2013 Norman Hardie Chardonnay County 90 Points

Canada, Ontario, Prince Edward County VQA

The nose on this is certainly quite lean and light, almost reminiscent of chardonnay. The low intensity nose features lemon, mineral, toast, green leaves, and saline. The palate is high acid, with just a touch of richness. The finish is a touch sour and medium minus in length.

  • 2012 Norman Hardie Chardonnay Cuvée "L"

    Canada, Ontario, Ontario VQA

This is quite tightly wound but you can tell there is potential here. The nose is of melon, citrus and orchard fruit (apple) with some marzipan and marshmallow. The palate features high, tight acid and a long finish. Hard to rate today but worth laying down.

  • 2013 Norman Hardie Rosé 86 Points

Canada, Ontario, Prince Edward County VQA

Bit of an odd rosé. The nose is quite vegetative, also: coffee, moss, soil, and toffee. The fruit is tart with cranberry and sour cherries. The palate is light, dry and a tad sour, with high acid and even a touch of tannin.

  • 2013 Norman Hardie Pinot Noir County 88 Points

Canada, Ontario, Prince Edward County VQA

The nose on this wine is quite clearly vegetative with aromas of green plant leaves, rasapberry bush, red plum and dry soil with some mineral in reserve. The palate is a bit tough with medium astringent tannin and a medium minus finish.

  • 2011 Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Unfiltered 91 Points

Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Niagara Peninsula VQA

The nose on this wine shows a touch of oak that is still integrating via hints of sawdust. Also on the nose mixed herbs, cherries, and strawberries. The palate has a nice sweet entry and a medium finish of wonderfully red fruit. Quite like a Cote de Beaune, perhaps a volnay.

EDIT: Not surprising then that 6 months later I blinded this wine as a Burgundy.

  • 2012 Norman Hardie Pinot Noir Cuvée L

    Canada, Ontario, Ontario VQA

This is quite automatically challenged, at least today. I find this a tad tough to rate. The low intensity nose is of dark cherry and soil. The palate shows the lushness, structure, and stuffing with loads of dark cherry and dark soil, that leads me to believe this will be better in a few years. The palate is structured with medium tannin and acid and a medium finish. Could see this peaking out with a low 90's score in the next few years.

  • 2013 Norman Hardie Cabernet Franc County 88 Points

Canada, Ontario, Prince Edward County VQA

This pours inky dark with purple flecks at the rim. The nose is driven on dark potting soil, with dirt, concrete dust, herbs, and medicinal black raspberry in reserve. The palate is very tart, puckering and elevated in tannin. Could use some time and may come around nicely.
