Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 1971 Dom Pérignon Champagne P3 96 Points

    France, Champagne

What can I say. I just love this wine. Versus the regular 1971 I had a few days ago this came across as much younger and needed at least 30 mins of air to reveal itself. Still had lots of energy left. A great champagne. Not sure if I prefer the P3 or a well kept bottle of the regular 71 as both were lovely in their own way.

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 1992 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

I thought this bottle never fully opened up. Sharp and precise but lacked a little generosity. Preferred the 90 MP tonight.

  • 1990 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

At first I thought this was big and flabby and not too interesting. However this actually tightened up with more air and as it warmed. Text book stuff and true to Domaine, Terroir and Vintage. WWOTN.

  • 1985 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

Second bottle opened as the first bottle was a bit strange. US Wildman label. Based on previous experience I considered this as one of the greatest Leflaive Chevalier's I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Tonight, unfortunately, it really did not want to impress us. Never quite opened up although we gave it a lot of time in the glass.

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 1990 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru

Everything was there - the Dujac nose, the lovely stems and that pure fruit. Soft and voluptuous, - nice feminine counterpoint to the Clos de la Roche 89 and 90 which were more brawny. Kept gaining over dinner. True stunner, at a great place right now and RWOTN.

  • 1990 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Great nose but the palate never really opened up until 2 hours of air but by then there was little left. This felt a bit of an outlier vs the 89 CdR and 90 CsD which you could tell was cut from the same cloth and driking at peak. Definite a few points of upside here with further maturation.

  • 1989 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Superb. Real stunner right out of the gates but could not keep up with the 90 CSD towards the end of the evening. Would prob score it higher on another night with lesser competition.
