Introduction

Great night with a small group of 6 at St. Dinette

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2004 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 95 Points

    France, Champagne

Light gold color. Drank 1+ glass over 40 minutes. Another rock solid bottle of '04 Comte; such a pretty wine to say the least. Lovely green fruits, pear and apple, nice focus and purity, floral, nicely autolytic, fine bead. The palate is so refined and elegant, pear, green apple, lacy, toasty, almond, great acid and very long. This was a tiche warm or it might have resonated even more!

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over an hour plus. Drank this side by side with an '08 Boillot Meursault Charmes. This was showing a fair bit of oak at this point both on the nose and palate. There was some integration over the hour, but still a bit robust. Oak, lemon, tangerine and mineral nose. The palate is denser, medium plus body with lemon oil, tangerine, a bit nutty, medium plus finish. Seemingly needs a bit more time to fully integrate.

  • 2008 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Light medium gold. Drank 1+ glass over an hour plus. Drank this side by side with an '05 Boillot Pucelles. Very slightly darker color on the Meursault. The Charmes is quite pretty, lemon, sea brine, white fruits. The palate is lovely with medium body, refined lemon, good depth and intensity, lemon parfait, briny minerality and lots of dry extract on the lengthy finish. Paired wonderfully with our dumplings with kale in a lemon sauce. Showing very well now.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Rhys Pinot Noir Swan Terrace 93 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. Same bottle as Dalluge, and thanks for sharing! Very complex and aromatic on the nose with cherry, herbal, tobacco leaf, orange peel, and spice. The palate is ripe, though it holds everything together nicely. I don't think you'd mistake this for a RRV. The palate follows the nose nicely, tart cherry, orange, citrus peel, light pine needle, cranberry, all on a medium body. The tannins are soft and the the finish is medium plus. Very good 92+ to 93pts.

  • 2008 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Roncières

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Medium red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. Seriously reductive, vegetal. After some serious swirling and a multiple applications of a clef du vin, thirb jos got substantially better. Shows red fruits, and some earth. Score reserved.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 2001 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Centenaire 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Very dark red color. 45 minute decant. Drank 1 glass over an hour plus. Fairly classical CDP nose and palate, garrigue, dark red fruits, crushed berry, earth. We drank this next to an '09 Pegau that had some serious barnyard going on. This had little if any to start but it did develop a fair bit of funk over time, but never crossing into the danger area. The palate is medium full bodied, distinctive Captain Crunch palate, funk, dark red fruits, garrigue, refined wood, some firm tannins and a medium finish. Very nice indeed.

  • 2009 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. Quite the brett and barnyard fest going here. This was one of the more pronounced examples I've seen in awhile from Pegau. Hints of effervescence and a tad bit of VA as well. This gets better over the hour and starts to show more balance with a good bit or Herb de Provence and tart cherry and kirsch. A little sharp on the finish.
