Served blind vis-a-vis (or just after) the Pol Roger 1982, this did surprisingly not seem very much younger; it has the creamy chardonnay identity, a very fine concentration (1996!), a good acidity and overall a lively presence. #HSA#Foghead
What a treat; very fresh, and we were guessing in the 90's. It is creamy and rich, notes of rye bread and old fashioned drug store, coffee galore; still living bubbles. Brought by Kannie. #Foghead#HSA
Brought by Jannie - and very fresh indeed. We guessed Barolo, and while the nose starts out somewhat subdued and old, but everything quickly comes alive, and - lo & behold - an elegant red fruit is dancing through. Very good depth, old fashioned Barolo here. #Foghead#HSA
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Tasted vis-avis the Pegau 2001, this comes out as leaner, even somewhat Burgundian; elegant indeed, still with a core of fresh fruit and a long way from unfolding, I think. Certainly approachable, but will gain depth... 93+
Wait for this please. Tasting blind, I was initially guessing Priorat, such is the charcoal, powerful, dark expression here. With some air, black olives, black fruit appears in a fresher way, but it remains dark and closed with notes of chocolate running through. Brilliant - but too young. Brought to the table as a "pause" wine by HSA. #Foghead#HSA
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Served blind and not necessarily easy to detect as a neuf, as it is quite polished and lush. Not a bad wine, not in any sense,. and it is a pleasure to drink, but it was in the company of greatness. Brought by Rasmus Amdi. #Foghead#HSA
Out of this world; tasting blind, we were talking tawny (the colour is there), but there is no brown sugar here, rather a razorblade precision and clarity and concentration of fruit. This is Grand Vin indeed, and it will go on, but it was singing on the night, and people were dancing in joy. #Foghead#HSA
