Medium yellow/orange color. Rich citrus (especially orange) on the nose, with some more advanced notes. Pretty, expansive, creamy on the palate with some bitter orang and spice. Nice acidity; quite dry. Enjoyable, but better Champagnes for my palate exist at this price.
Kumquats, green fruit, tropical fruit, stone fruit, lemon, lime, on the complex nose and palate, with a lean, lime, mineral finish. Yum!! Excellent. However, the nose showed much less with an hour or two of air, strangely.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Deep, complex, nose of muddled red and black fruit and some earth. Light grittiness on the palate. Cherry and spice on the palate. Very light tannin offer nice structure, tangy acid. Very good. Group's runner up for wine of the night.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
An interesting nose of red berry, some sour meat, and perhaps a drop of VA. Light, with low tannin, and medium-plus acid. Seemed a bit disjointed on the palate; weird. This was seriously outclassed by the Bocquenet Echezeaux had alongside.
Two hours of air. Wow! Easily my wine of the night and (somewhat surprising given the diversity of palates) the group's number one. My notes read: HOLY CRAP and Beautiful. Liquid silk. Palate is sour, herbal, a bit heady, earthy, wild, fruity, ... Just fantastic.
Deep purple. Bramble and dark fruit on the nose. So very big and ripe. A very modern cabernet, without the structure or complexity that I would expect at this price.
I'll admit that this is far from my preferred style and, were it not for the structured time to sit with this, I'd give this a second or two and move on. That would have been a shame, because a good deal of complexity emerged with some coaxing after the initial shock of ripe fruit and alcohol. Dark fruit, herbs, florals. Decidedly modern styled big cab, but very well made with a good deal of complexity on the nose and palate. Very good.
