Oxidised and sherry like - tasted this some months ago with similar notes. Interesting, but only when you love Rayas .... will it be back for a second life? Hardly. NR

actually got this one blind, proud was I - it is textbook white bordeaux, one should drink more of that stuff. The wine was domintated by sauvignon blanc, but with a creamy backbone of the semillon - and wonderfully open and ready for business (they can be difficult young).

this is actually a vin de paille, and I guessed as much tasting it blind - - but it does not show on the label, and the bottles are 75 cl - and a rare treat, too. This bottle seemed quite aged, not finished at all, but with intense honey- and oxidised notes. Interesting ... more than anything else.

Oh boy. A woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke; text book côte-rôtie from back, when men were men, and barriques were not as present. Smooth, silky, almost Burgundy-like and still with a masculin peppery, licorice-like sent - the fruit is still alive, and it could live longer, but the wine is ready and open.

lots of strawberrys, silky style, very light, but fresh - unmistakenly Burgundy. I was impressed with this long lived wine. Nice drink.

I brought this one, so it was not blind for me - but trust me, it was good. High density, complete harmony, all though way to young. Pepper, bacon fat, loads of fruit, tannin and a good acidity - will live long - and should. 95+ points

A darker, younger style of CR - pepper, cherries and still some tannins - delish - and still elegant. 90+ point

Blood and stone, very typical Cornas, but also open and smooth, as I have found this cuvee to be (especially 1999). Ready, but will live.

Will this ever come around? still closed, all though hints of garrigue and cool fruit shines through. it is still not ready, and I am still unsure of what it will be - all though on this night more optimistic.

This was not difficult to guess - and I have had it a couple of times during the last months . It is open for business, I think, full bodied with leather, olives, dark fruit, garrigue. A full blown neuf from a great producer - and the best cuvee, if you ask me.

Surprisingly elegant, far from his sometimes overdone style. Cherry-fruit, garrigue, complete harmony in spite of a dark, almost grave & serious tone in the wine. Majestic, one might say ...

Typical La Chapelle with a quite sweet, almost caramalized core in a fatty, broad wine. Very well built, and a lot of Hermitage here, I admit, but I am not a personal fan, nor will I ever be - of these vintages and younger versions.

Spot on. When a Bordeaux is good, you have to bow your head. I am not a great Bordeaux-drinker, but I stand corrected as do the surrounding wines. This was a almost perfect wine on the night; cocao, sweet plumb and ... oh, forget it, just drink and enjoy

From MG. A heayvyweight wine with an insisting overcooked tone - had me worried, I buy a case of these every year, havent touched the 98´s yet - probably (hopefuly) just way to young. No score (just hopes)

Master of the hill strikes again; all though young this wine represents complete harmony. It will live long but it is all ready now the great hermitage; masculin, yet elegant, spicy, yet smooth, tannic, yet velvety. Wow. 96+

Dense, tight, firm with notes of chocolate and tobacco, a rich, dry wine, majestic and somewhat aritistocratic and more impressive than it is inviting. I love this style, this wine, this château _ if I were a rich man

2001 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 91 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Oily with a fresh and only a bit fat fruit; strong hints of garrigue and only a little bit of alcohol showing - lovely, fresh wine. 91+

1998 E. Guigal Hermitage 88 Points
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Smooth, fully developed, typical syrah notes - but all most overly civilized with no real appellation- character and dare I say ... a bit boring ..
