Glass: Gabriel Universal From Magnum (obviously). Half of the bottle decanted for about 1-2h. Still very young but pleasantly to drink: Silky, velvety tannin, very fresh due to the medium+, well integrated acidity. Lots of spices and complexity, long finish. Potential of further development for 10+ years. 93-94
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal Pale, lemon-golden color. Very mineral, lean and elegant. Maybe needs more time or other glass?
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal Pale, lemon-golden color. Restrained nose. Very mineral, not much fruit, medium finish, nice tension. I guess it needs some more years to evolve. 90-92
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal Pale, lemon-golden color. Restrained nose, very closed. I was a bit disappointed after smelling, but on the palate this wine is a stunner. Very mineral, not much fruit, lot of pressure and electrifying tension, complex and long finish. Give it 5+ years of development and it will be a very great Chardonnay. Nose 89, palate 94.
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal From Magnum. Medium golden color. Classic Chardonnay, medium+ intense and developing nose with some ripeness. Very nice! Dry, acidity and alcohol (13,5% abv) perfectly balanced. Chalky mineral notes, restrained stone fruit, herbs, oak, vanilla. Good tension and pressure, creamy and mouth coating. Not as electrifying as the Gantenbein, but much more complete and round. This wine is at its peak and will stay there for some more years. Great! 93-95
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal Classic BDX nose that I don’t like. Astonishingly not completely closed or shut down, but you can feel that it needs much more time for development. Silky tanning and good texture though. Currently around 91+
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal Makes fun to drink now. Good balance, still fruit driven but with some tertiary aromas already. Velvet tannin, medium+ finish. Very nice and good potential for 5-10 years of further development.
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal Not flawed, but certainly over the top, quite one dimensional, only partially showing signs of a good Hermitage. Drink up!
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal Well, what can I say. A bodybuilder on steroids. Massive body and structure, too much of everything, without finesse and complexity. Hot, over extracted. Reminds me of dark berry jam mixed with pure alcohol. How this wine could ever get 98 PP? Only Bob knows… Will it improve over time? I really don’t know, but I strongly doubt, that it will develop more complexity and loose weight
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal What a difference after the Mercury head. Almost classic BDX, very elegant, quite low alcohol (12% abv). Very nice and fully developed nose with herbs, wet forest soil, dark fruit and some barn. Very elegant on the palate, velvet tannin, red raw meat, cherry and other red fruit, spices, medium+ finish. Very nice with potential of further ageing of at least 5-10 years. 93-94
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal It was a shame to open up this bottle. Completely closed and shut down. But at least it showed its great potential. Will be a great wine in 10-20 years. Wait and you will be greatly rewarded!
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal PnP. Still very young. Very interesting and nice nose with the typical mint / eucalyptus notes. Dry, multi layered, driven by its fruit, spices and herbs. Nice texture, very velvety. Medium++ finish. Good pressure, joyful to drink and still with potential for further ageing. 92-94
*** brief, no formal notes *** Glass: Gabriel Universal This is just for my personal record. Don’t know, if this bottle was a fake or simply gone… Interestingly it was not dead, in fact it drinks nicely still if you like a mixture of Port and oloroso Sherry, but it had nothing to do with Merlot. Therefore: NR.
