Introduction

The idea was to order the fresh grilled branzino and do a mix of crisper white wines. Unfortunately, I had a meeting which could not be avoided so I arrived considerable late. Thanks to everyone for indulging me so I could still partake in this little bit of heaven. It was a gorgeous night to sit on the patio and sip some excellent wines most of which worked quite well with the fish. I need to get back there before our warm weather slips away!

Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • 2014 Caves Duplessis Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Pretty much agree with everything Chablis28 said about this wine. Lots of dry extract and citrus, more body and some roundness. Very good and likely will be better in a couple years. 92+ to 93pts.

  • 2010 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Les Forêts 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Small glass over 20 minutes. This was typical of the '10 vintage showing the blend of bright fruit and freshness with good acid and length. Bright apple, pear, and tropical notes with oyster shell and a long finish. 91+ to 92pts.

  • 2009 Chéreau-Carré Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Le Clos du Chateau l'Oiseliniere 91 Points

France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine

Small glass. Very good, very crisp and bright, precise and focused with great extract and leanness on the lemon, white fruit and saline notes. We need to drink more good Muscadet - excellent pairing with our branzini.! 91+ to 92pts.

  • 2013 André-Michel Brégeon Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Gorges 93 Points

France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine

Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. This is a pretty remarkable wine. As Chablis28 noted previously, a complete wine. What immediately stands out is the complexity of fruit, white peach in the forefront with clementine and apple backing that up along with stony minerality and white blossoms. The palate is both crisp and fresh, but with an intensity and balance that is superb. Those fruits are pure and beautiful and the powdery, sweet tart like, blast of sour citrus is fantastic on the palate. Full of wet stones and saline and bursting with energy. There is a depth and body, that for lack of a better word I will call richness, and complexity here that is exceptional in Muscadet. 92+ to 93pts.

  • 2001 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile 93 Points

    France, Alsace

Light medium gold color. Drank a small glass over 20 minutes. This had warmed up a bit when i got it at the end of the night, but it was still outstanding. There was a good bit of petrol on the nose and palate - maybe more so with the temp, but nothing bothersome for me. Apple, fusil, nectarine, spiced pear, medium full bodied and layered, discreet minerality and focus. I love these Freddie's when they hit 15+ years. 92+ to 93pts.

  • 2008 Weingut Keller Abts E®.de Riesling Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Just a small pour of this and I didn't write anything down. However, this was layered and crisp with expressive fruits, youthful and has a long life yet.

  • 2010 Domaine Des Augustins Vouvray Silex 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Small pour. Fairly typical chenin, and i mean that in a good way. Wool, petrol, green orchard fruit, peach, medium body with slightly chalky minerality. 90+pts.

  • 2005 François Chidaine Vouvray Le Bouchet

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Very small taste. I'm not quite sure about this. There's some sourness, sour apple, and edginess on the palate. Maybe just fading, as it didn't seem oxidized. Usually love Chidaine too.
