Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Watervale
Floral, lemon, lime and light herbs. Nice mix of sweetness and acidity, decent structure and length. Lacks in complexity but it has nice balance and drinkability.
Funky, oats, gunflint, charcoal, musk lollies and pineapple. The palate alternates between sour and bitter characters. Poor length and depth. Needed some intervention.
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Watervale
Orange, toast, waxy and floral notes. Quite like the palate, good length with very nice dimension and poise - good aged characters coming through. Nice length and balance, feels like this is drinking well now.
Australia, New South Wales, Central Ranges, Orange
Cherry, licorice, violets and woody/earthy notes. Has some grip on the palate even with a sweet background. Good intensity for a rose and keeps interest up throughout the glass.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Blind. Slate, passionfruit, smoke and lemon with some light oak. Delicate on the palate with a very light roundness around the edges of the fruit. Medium length, the fruit weight picks up a bit with air but doesn't feel all that layered for now.
Violets, cherry, raspberry and pepper. Sweet fruit, though the tannins kick in well. The ripeness shows through the mid palate as well. I like it, but I prefer when this wine is a little more held back.
Blind. Blackcurrant, plum, cherry and redcurrant, stalky notes and chocolate. Plenty of tannins show up on the palate, though the riper style of fruit covers them well. Good but not yet complex.
Some carbonic style bubblegum and some earth and spice. Sweet sweetness but also some spice through the palate. No structure behind it which poses a bit of a problem but it still has some appeal.
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Dark coloured. Cedar and mint, with menthol, redcurrant and blackcurrant with some chocolate as well - good mix of everything. Quite rich fruit on the palate, still showing good youth with a vibrancy as well as good structure. Really well balanced.
Cherry, raspberry, strawberry, roses - very red fruit driven with plenty of floral notes and very good lift. The palate shows a good mix of fruit sweetness with some tannic grip - though on the whole it is quite approachable. I like the style here, it is pretty but still shows interest throughout.
Blind. Worked style - buttery, wax and passionfruit with some apricot as well. Large proportions on the palate, there is some drive there and the fruit is decidedly mouthfilling. Didn't really appeal on the night but maybe a different context would have it show better.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny
Blind. Redcurrant, some meat, stalks, pencil shaving and ash. Plenty of grip along with crunchy acidity and some nice red fruit to tie it together. Very enjoyable.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Blind. Pretty style - floral lift, violets, roses - citrus, spice and raspberry with licorice as well. Soft and round fruit, there is fine tannin weaved into the background. Good length. Not sure if it will improve with time but I wouldn't be surprised.
Boysenberry, charcoal, spice, chocolate and blueberry aromas. Quite good fruit intensity but with spice giving it some interest. Good structure to go along with the ripe fruit. Drinking well at the moment.
2014 Les Dolomies Savagnin Côtes du Jura Saint Loth 88 Points
France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
Cheesy toast, white florals, some grass and straw. Good textural element, though it feels a little clipped at the finish - still good interest though.
