  When you do expect nothing, a wine offers you a certain elegance with aromas of pastry and red fruits. On the palate is balanced with a more than acceptable length and a dense mouthfeel. A pleasant surprise indeed.
  
  Cuando no esperas nada, un vino te ofrece cierta elegancia con aromas de pastelería y frutos rojos. En boca se presenta equilibrado con una mas que aceptable longitud y una densa sensación en boca. Una agradable sorpresa.

  I really do not appreciate in any way the contribution of the varietal in this rosé wine. Very light aromas of raspberries with a null density and a contained acidity. Non-existent length. I have not found its true meaning.
  
  Realmente no aprecio en ningún aspecto la contribución de la varietal en este vino rosado. Muy ligeros aromas a frambuesas con una nula densidad y una contenida acidez. Inexistente longitud. No le he encontrado su verdadero sentido.

  It takes a while to blow up but in the end it offers sensations of white fruit (pear) and little else. On the palate has a sharp acidity that really hurts.

  Memories of peach (like its pale color) on the nose. It is presented very abruptly as in the mouth where you would have to polish much more to be able to talk about some harmony here.

  Winery that belongs to Juan Gil group. What did you expect to obtain with a 30% fermentation in French oak barrels?
  More towards a chardonnay with some heaviness. Very obvious nose and same heavy feeling in the mouth. Unappetising. Doggy wine.
  
  Bodega que pertenece al grupo de Juan Gil. ¿Qué esperaban obtener con un 30% de fermentación en barrica francesa?
  Más hacia una chardo con cierta pesadez. Nariz muy obvia y misma sensación pesada en boca. No apetece. P'al perro.

  Did you really deserve vinification for this separated plot? Absurd sugary notes and some white fruit.
  In the mouth it is blatantly acidic and that gives it some length.

  En boca es descaradamente ácido y eso le proporciona longitud.

  Softer and more elegant than last time. Predominance of that aroma left by clean hands washed with antique soap. In addition notes of white fruit. In the mouth still has to be polished but leaves a good feeling. A different ribeiro, more of the Valdeorras side.
  
  Más suave y elegante que la última vez. Predominio de ese aroma que dejan las manos limpias lavadas con jabón antiguo. Además hay que añadir notas de fruta blanca. En boca aún tiene que pulirse pero deja buena sensación. Un ribeiro diferente, más del estilo Valdeorras.

  Within that limited selection of Rueda wines, this bottle is by far the worst: aromas of artificial aniseed, plasticized. In the mouth acidity is very intrusive, decompensated and very short. Lees do not contribute what they should. Sorry
  
  Dentro de la escasa selección de vinos de Rueda, esta botella es con mucha diferencia la peor: aromas de anís como artificiales, plastificados. En boca la acidez es muy intrusiva, descompensada y muy corta. Las lías no contribuyen con lo que deberían.

  Very cava-like on the nose with a tropical fruit background. It has a sweet tooth ending of peach that I like. On the other hand a something metallic note that does not work on me. On the palate is very young and only stands out for its aftertaste, intelligent mix of bitter anises.
  
  Muy a cava con un fondo de fruta tropical. Tiene un goloso final a hueso de melocotón que me gusta. Por contra una nota algo metálica que no me va. En boca es muy joven y solo destaca por su postgusto, inteligente mezcla de anises amargos

  Vintages pass and I still have the same feeling: a bad sweetness combined with a sparse acidity. From this variety I have better memories coming from the Juraçon. Unfortunately this bottle does not look like.
  
  Pasan las añadas y me sigue dando la misma sensación: un dulzor mal combinado con una acidez escasa. De esta variedad tengo mejores recuerdos procedentes del Juraçon. Lamentablemente esta botella no se parece en nada.

• NV Bodegas Faustino González Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Cruz Vieja Palo Cortado en Rama

  Leaving aside the philosophical discussion of what a "Palo Cortado en rama" is, this bottle does not have a single element of that segment: no lactic notes, no sour butter or nothing at all. If this wine came at some point to be a Palo Cortado, my nose tells me that it would come from an Amontillado. It has a final sweet touch that definitively kills this sherry. Regrettable.
  
  Dejando aparte la discusión de un "Palo Cortado en rama", esta botella no tiene ni un sólo elemento de ese segmento: ni notas lácticas, ni de mantequilla agria ni nada de nada. Si este vino llegara en algún momento a ser un Palo Cortado mi nariz me dice que procedería de un Amontillado. Tiene un toque dulce final que remata a este jerez. Lamentable.

  At this point I thought it was a rather crude wine, unpolished, where aromas of plums are presented abruptly and on the palate tannins and acidity do not allow to enjoy it. Truth be told, I expected more from this special selection.
  
  En este punto me ha parecido un vino bastante tosco, sin pulir, donde los aromas a ciruelas se presentan abruptamente y en el paladar los taninos y la acidez no permiten disfrutarlo. La verdad sea dicha, esperaba más de esta selección especial.

  A bit of the Priorat essence. Aromas of plums with garrigue and licorice. All very thin and unsophisticated. On the palate burns a little because that 15 ABV. Even so it is a sapid wine with a good length.
  
  Un poco de la esencia del Priorato. Aromas a ciruelas con algarrobas y regaliz. Todo muy tenue y poco sofisticado. Al paladar quema un poco por ese 15% de alcohol. Aún así es un vino sápido y de buena longitud.

  You really expect more with such a pedigree. Young wine, more than correct, with the varietal well defined and with some balance. I miss more persistence, a little more body and acidity. Even with that, it stands out in the exhibition.
  
  Realmente uno espera más con semejante pedigrí. Vino joven, más que correcto, con la varietal bien marcada y con algún equilibrio. Echo de menos más persistencia, un poco más de cuerpo y acidez. Aún con todo, destaca en la muestra.

  A little of what a Rioja wine should represent, with all that entails: faint aromas of wet leather and red berries; refreshing acidity in the mouth and tannins defined by oak. Having met some old wines from this winery, my expectations were a bit higher.
  
  Un riojita, con todo lo que ello conlleva: tenues aromas a cuero mojado y frutillos rojos; refrescante acidez en boca y unos taninos marcados por la madera. Habiendo conocido algunos vinos viejos de esta bodega, mis expectativas eran un poco más elevadas.

  Good acidity and tamed tannins on the palate. Aromatically it is very soft with spicy memories of strawberries and cloves. What is usually a concoction known as punch. Not bad for a 'cosechero' wine.
  
  Buena acidez y tanninos domados al paladar. Aromáticamente es muy suave con recuerdos especiados a fresas y clavo. Lo que suele ser un brebaje conocido como ponche. No mal para un vino cosechero.

  From a magnum. Aromas of clove, leather, wild strawberries and vanilla. Very Rioja indeed. On the palate it isn't a different story: sapid with a good length. Acidity refreshes your mouth and tannins need time to soft a little. Not bad at all for a modern 'cosechero' wine.
  
  De una magnum. Aromas a clavo, cuero, fresitas silvestres y vainilla. Sin duda muy Rioja. Al paladar no es una historia diferente: sápido con una buena longitud. La acidez refresca la boca y los taninos necesitan tiempo para sofocarse un poco. No mal del todo para un vino cosechero moderno.

  I like the smell of Mazuelo in the morning ...
  That dryness and that earthy aroma accompanied by notes rich in blue berries with licorice. Very savory on the palate with good acidity yet a little short and drying. It maintains an ascending line. I'm glad.
  
  Me gusta el olor a Mazuelo por la mañana ...
  Esa sequedad y ese aroma a tierra acompañado de notas ricas a frutillos azules con regaliz. Muy sápido en boca con buena acidez y un poco corto y secante. Mantiene una línea ascendente. Me alegro.

  A rosebush of pink roses on the nose with a strong touch of greenery. Very smooth entry that degenerates into a real wood plank. I would not waste much more time here.

  To my nose much more accomplished than his older sister. Fruit and well integrated wood with predominance of licorice on black fruit compote. Easy and very dry on the palate. Wood does not mean quality.

  On the nose initially as a bag of goodies from a kiosk. Develops secondary as coffee, a touch of cologne probably coming from that mixture of woods that include even a Hungarian one. Soft, sweet but delicate on the palate, with good acidity. These people do not aspire to greatness but they know how to do it.
  
  En nariz inicialmente como una bolsa de golosinas de un quiosco. Desarrolla secundarios de café Un toque de colonia seguramente procedente de esa mezcla de maderas que incluyen hasta una húngara. Suave, dulzón pero delicado al paladar, con buena acidez. Esta gente no aspira a la grandeza pero saben cómo hacerlo.

  Still a reference in its segment. Sweet nose with mixed black and red fruits without compote, with minerality and licorice. Powerful entrance in the mouth and more affectionate passage through the throat although the alcohol is not fully integrated.
  
  Sigue siendo una referencia en su segmento. Golosa nariz con mezcla de frutos negros y rojos sin compotar, con mineralidad y regaliz. Entrada potente en boca y paso más asedado por la garganta aunque el alcohol no está totalmente integrado.

  Avalanche of roasted coffee, espresso. It does not let other aromas arise, although I want to think that there is meat and undergrowth somewhere. Too much astringent in the mouth, with decompensated tannins, alcohol and acidity.
  
  Alud de torrefactos, café expreso. No deja que surjan otros aromas aunque quiero pensar que en algún lugar hay cárnicos y sotobosque. Demasiado astringente en boca, con taninos, alcohol y acidez descompensados.

  Beautiful cherry color with orange huges. Initially it smells like a grandmother's closed room. With some time appear memories of spicy smokies but I am afraid that little elegant.
  In the mouth it is quite bad: rough and warm. Without any equilibrium.
  
  Bello color cereza con ribetes anaranjados. Inicialmente huele a la habitación cerrada de una abuela. Con algo de tiempo aparecen recuerdos ahumados picantes pero me temo que poco elegantes.
  En boca deja mucho que desear: áspero y cálido. Sin equilibrio.

  Always a hit, especially in good vintages like this.
  Selected fruit is mixed with lactic aromas producing a yogurt of strawberries and cherries. On the palate it is delicious with fruit compote and abundant acidity that refreshes all the way. A very comfort choice.
  
  Siempre un acierto, sobre todo en buenas añadas.
  La fruta seleccionada se entre mezcla con aromas lácticos produciendo un yogur de fresas y cerezas. Al paladar es delicioso con fruta compotada y abundante acidez que refresca el trago. Una elección segura.

  Interesting nose with a very defined varietal. Sweet aromas of plums and green figs. Slaty and mineral.
  Not excessively jammy. In the mouth leaves a feeling of fullness provided by a coarse density.
  It has good length but it burns at this moment a little for its 14.5 ABV.
  
  Nariz interesante con una varietal muy marcada. Goloso aromas a ciruelas y a higos verdes. Pizarroso y mineral.
  No excesivamente compotado.en boca deja una sensación de plenitud proporcionada por una tosca densidad
  Tiene buena longitud pero quema en este momento un poco por su 14.5%

  Still an easy reference in Cigales. Aromas of sweet tobacco are interspersed with black fruits to obtain an effective result. On the palate is balanced but slightly tannic. Abundant aftertaste. Good effort.
  
  Todavía una fácil referencia en su zona. Aromas a tabaco dulce se entremezclan con frutos negros para obtener un resultado eficaz. En boca resulta equilibrado aunque ligeramente tánico. Abundante retrogusto. Buen trabajo.

  Betadine on the nose with cologne notes. Not very nice. Drying and shortie on the palate. Doggy wine.

  Dusty and drying, just what you want before to start a running from here. Nothing of aromas of pastry shop nor fresh fruit. In addiction wood is hidding everything. Same bad sensation in the mouth. To pass away.
  
  Polvoriento y secante, la combinación justa para salir corriendo sin aportar notas de pastelería ni de fruta. La madera lo ahoga todo.. Mismo sensación en boca. Para pasar ahora mismo.

  The best of the serie of three. The quality grape in the area makes the difference .. Aromas of dusty berries of a side road. In the mouth the power contained with a dense feeling and a good length. Don't meddle with things that don't concern you.
  
  La mejor de la serie de tres. La uva de calidad en la zona marca la diferencia.. Aromas a bayas polvorientas del camino. En boca la potencia contenida con una sensación densa y con una buena longitud. Zapatero a tus zapatos.

  Very lactic on the nose like blackberry yogurt. A little linear of all modes. On the palate on the other hand, it is unbalanced with a triggered acidity, an intrusive wood and a 14 ABV too obvious.
  
  Sensación muy láctica en nariz como de yogur de moras. Un poco lineal de todos modos. Al paladar por contra, resulta desequilibrado con una acidez disparada, una madera intrusiva y un alcohol 14% demasiado obvio.

  Still to be made begins to stand out for its mixture of vanilla and red and black berries. Everything a little off. Very cherrish on the palate, a bit and astringent and too acid at this present moment.
  
  Todavía por hacerse empieza a destacar por su mezcla de vainillas y frutillos rojos y negros. Todo un poco apagado. Muy a a cereza al paladar, acido y pelín astringente en este momento.

  Elegant grenache on the nose. Incredible value for money, like the whole DO. There is balance and terroir on the nose. Redcurrants, almost lingoberry. In the mouth it remains a bit short yet acid and dense. I loved that effective nose.
  
  Garnacha elegante en nariz. Increíble relación calidad precio, como en toda la DO. Hay equilibrio y sensación de terruño en nariz. Grosellas Rojas, casi lingo. En boca se queda un poco corto aún ácido y denso. Me quedo con esa nariz. A cuidar aspectos de marketing ... "Exposa" Somos borrachines pero leemos :-)

  Excessively scented with spices from the East. Soapy sensation. Very palatable in the mouth with an initial sweet note and a bitter end too much defined. It is not the ideal vintage but always a reference in the area.
  
  Excesivamente perfumado a especias de Oriente. Sensación jabonosa. Muy apetecible en boca con una nota dulce inicial y un amargue final demasiado marcado. No es la añada ideal pero siempre una referencia en la zona.
