Introduction

This dinner was part of the 2018 Burghound Symposium curated by Alan “Burghound” Meadows as well as Christoph Perrot-Minot, staged by the Hong Kong fine wine merchant “The Fine Wine Experience”. The younger wines were clearly better than the older ones, more balanced, still modern for sure but less overextracted. In general the house style is blue fruit, concentrated, not dissimilar to Hubert Lignier but more extreme especially the samples of 2005/10 were questionable for my palate, i.e., Extraction at the cost of freshness and terroir transparency. 2015 was good and 2014 not far behind, 14 was relatively elegant. The 3 wines on display had their own aroma and structural profile,
- Charmes: Blue spectrum, Lighter, elegant style
- Mazoyeres: Blue, deeper, smokier, aromatically most complex of the three
- Combe Orveau Ultra: More red than blue fruit, mineralic
