Darker core with large maroon rim, fine sediment; olives, floral, violets, brine, fresh and classic Syrah, sour plum; good grain to the wine, sour plum, granite?, peppery, pink peppercorn, tangy, dry extract; very tasty, was in St. Joseph/Crozes Hermitage.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Very pale rose core with onion skin rim; soft nose, rose water, slight green herbs note, soft texture and sexy mouthfeel, almost cinnamon; others in Barolo but I called '09 Rosso di Montalcino, was not getting nobility apparently.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Reddish violet core showing clarity; great nose, spice, violets, cranberry, lingonberry, texture and richness evident from the nose; sappy on the palate, great balance, enticing dark cherry; was in Pousse d'Or Volnay.
Dark core with reddish violet rim; balm, Italian-like nose, roses, sweet dark cherry, herbs, menthol, cedar, licorice; more age evident on the palate, sandalwood, modern but nice underlying character, currants, a juiciness; was in Barbera, whoa, this was too high acid and was too easy drinking.
Dark crimson core with rusty rim; nutty, leather, balsamic, wilted flowers, meaty, autumnal; clay and wet earth, cherry, fuller body with easier tannin, spicy finish, some oak and polish, a touch shorter finish; tasty even though nose was slightly awkward.
Crimson core with rusty rim; pretty nose, rose petals, slight American oak, spice, herbs, sour cherry and strawberry; vanilla mixed with cherry and strawberries, cranberry, tea, high acid finish, drive, slight burnt orange, cherry pit, tart and taut; people in Nebbiolo and Burgundy, mine; tasty with more time ahead of it.
Lots of sediment, crimson core, see through, onion skin rim; rose petals, orange, soft strawberry, cherry, almost reduced, cedar, cinnamon, higher alcohol and sweeter fruit, sweet and soft tannin; delicious, expected this to be Tuscan.
Darker core with maroon rim; briny, granite, sour plums, animale, violets, roasted fruit, high toned oak; bigger on palate, burly, menthol, darker fruit, raspberry jam, resolved, a bit short in the finish.
Dark core with garnet rim; cassis, vanilla, high toned, New World, blackberry, juicy, sappy and dense, juicy red but mainly dark fruit; was in Sonoma; good but tough for this group.
Dark garnet core with thin rim; new oak, plum, dark fruit, slight bramble, extracted, a touch metallic, bitter chocolate, currants, ripe but still juicy.
