McCormick & Schmick, Edina

Well, the long planned event for whites at Martina was disrupted by a kitchen fire that shut them down for the night. A quick audible was called in the middle of heavy storms rolling through the twin cities. The group picked up the rock, drove the field and reconvened a burb or two away at McCormick's for the planned white burg/chard theme. Turned out pretty good for a change up. Food worked with the theme and the wines provided all we'd hoped for. Nice night.

2006 Le Brun-Servenay Champagne Exhilarante Vieilles Vignes 92 Points
France, Champagne
Light-medium gold color. Drank a glass over 40 minutes. Almond nose with nice fruit, apple, ginger, bright, chalk. The palate carries some weight and depth, ginger, tart apple, apple skin, almond. Very good, still youthfully exhuberant and will likely benefit from a another year or two. 91+ to 92pts.

2012 Domaine Michel Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. I favored this over the '14 Jacques Carillon P-M and that may well just be a matter of aging. But for now the Niellon had a more open feel to it, medium in body and nice lemon character, good lift and with some gun powder quality.

2014 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Slow progress from the last bottle. Same bottle as Chablis28. Still rather harsh and showing more youthful oak, matchstick, vary tart, bracing is the right word; tart Meyer lemon, tart citrus. Check back in in a couple years I suspect.

2009 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ-Canet 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
This was quite nice, rather understated with a healthy dose of briny minerality, apple and fine citrus notes, though a bit high toned on the finish.

Seriously good stuff and very consistent with my previous note.. Excellent earth laden seashore character, saline, power and depth, citrus, full bodied and quite impressive again. A beauty.

2005 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over an hour next to an '09 H Boilot C-C. This really was in fine shape, and I like the Chablis28's description. This is about focus and purity, great steely minerality, very refined; lemon tart pear, well integrated, full bodied, complex, almond cream, white peach and melon. Very pretty, 93+pts.

This has some richness and depth, but it is still pretty restrained, stony, pear and spices. Good stuff.
