Introduction

Four of us gathered for a pre-concert dinner at Oceanaire, This was a super fun night highlighted by this group of exceptional wines. One of our favorite servers, Jessica, took great care of us and made some perfect recommendations in what turned out to be a quite delicious night of seafood. Then it was off to see the manic, powerful, and eclectic Jack White in concert. Not too shabby.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 166eme 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Light gold color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. First time trying the 166. This is youthful and lively with pear, green apple, stone fruit, pastry, modest yeastiness and lithe mineral notes. This is a sublime, elegant version of a youthful Krug with excellent length. Drinks great now and a few years should just enhance that.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Light gold plus color. Drank 1+ glass over an hour. This was similar to when we had it recently. The nose has a nice seashore earth and briny minerality with lemon notes and a whiff of wood and hints of vanillin. The palate has some body to it, more density and overall weight compared to the Christian Moreau. The palate adds to the sense of ocean and seashells; a touch of dankness, lemon, white peach, and nice length.

  • 2010 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Pale to light gold color. Drank 1+ glass over an hour. This was completely enchanting. This presented with a light, delicate profile of fine sea shells, and pretty lemon and lemon chiffon on both the nose and palate - just pristine. The palate is has a sneaking steeliness minerality to the lengthy finish. This was delicious and while drinking beautifully, I think there is more to come.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

  • 2014 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

Even better than the last time we had this, the evolution continues. No reduction this time, just straight up classically built Meursault, or BB, whatever....And I'm not here to talk about the price point, the bottom line is this is a wine that delivers more than its humble label claims. Lemon, pretty, sterling minerality, nice weight and depth carry through. 91+pts.

  • 2011 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Pale gold color. Drank 1+ glass over 45 minutes. Another year under its belt and that much better. This was just crystalline in its stony minerality, showing lovely purity and finesse, lemon, white peach, and brine. This has energy and a crisp acid that gives it excellent lift. A great bottle to finish with.
