Some nice Burgs (and a few others)

The stated theme was Grand Cru or Premier Cru Burgundies from 2000-2009, but some of us (me included) had trouble following instructions. It turned out to be quite a nice tasting.

• 2007 Domaine de la Bongran (Thevenet) Viré-Clessé Cuvée E. J. Thevenet 93 Points

  A little tropical, rich but with nice acidity, lovely. It just gets more explosive and intense with air, and is world-class by the end of the night.

• 2009 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

  A little dilute at first, but after a few hours it blossoms to show very good weight and persistence, rich but balanced. Don’t serve too cold and give it air.

  Fresher and fruitier than the 2002, mainly supported by tannin, not bad but a bit clumsy.
