Introduction

An opportunity to have a look at a few of the (many) wines from Louis Jadot with the brand ambassador.

Flight 1 - Bracket one - on arrival (1 Note)

surprisingly ripe for a village Chablis...

  • 2017 Louis Jadot Chablis

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

Peach over lemon, cream, clean, a little honeyed and honeysuckle, surprisingly ripe on the nose for a generic village Chablis. Bone dry, some fine, tannic burr, on the mid palate, peaches and lemons, a little chalky minerality and a little warmth on the finish, tangy, pleasant.

Flight 2 - Bracket two - whites (3 Notes)

The two 2016's were too young for me but showed promise. I kind of enjoyed the Le Clos Blanc

  • 2016 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Butter, cream, plenty of polished oak, sweet spices in the mouth it's spiced, rich, tightly wound and quite closed. With time it picks up some fleshiness but this is for me needing time. Note with time a beautiful jubey peach and lemon sherbet joins the oak and spice. This fruit travels to the palate. Very good.

  • 2016 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Medium minus aromas of oak and citrus, apple, mineral but fruit subsumed by oak on the nose. Juicy, a little sharp, again tight with some tannic grip on the front and mid palate finishes quite mineral and saline. Hmm. With time a little oatmeal on the nose and a little more fruit on the palate though the acid is still very sharp.

  • 2015 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Le Clos Blanc Domaine Gagey

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Savoury and leesy, toasted hazelnuts, butter, peach, lemon and lime, cedar. On the palate it's soft, rich and quite generous, travels long and finishes a little warm and slightly pear skin bitter. The fruits riper with a little lime peel and there is some smoky minerality.

Flight 3 - Bracket three - Beaune Horizontal (3 Notes)

That 2013 was pretty handy for me, just a sense of freshness. I wasn't so enamoured with the 2014's.

Flight 4 - Bracket four - Vintage Bracket (3 Notes)

That Clos St Denis started off fairly badly and just got better and better and better.

  • 2014 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Earthy, savoury red and black cherry, clay, wet, spicy, cream, young. More of the same on the palate with plentiful tannic grip that dries things out. Juicy acidity. Young.

  • 2010 Louis Jadot Pommard 1er Cru Les Chaponnières

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Meaty, savoury, a little Bovril and yeast extract, gamey a tiny touch of wet cellar with agitation some dense black fruits; plums and cherries. Savoury juicy, a little cream, plummy and spicy on the palate, still plenty of tannic burr here. The whole travels medium plus length. Nice.

  • 2007 Louis Jadot Clos St. Denis

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru

Medium minus savoury meaty, yeast extract and a touch of farmyard over slightly volatility, wood glue but, with time in the glass, it starts to show some lovely red and black fruits with a little jubey cherry, cream, sweet spice. On the palate it's juicy with a lovely gently cherry fruit here but quite savoury, tannins on the id palate but all travels long. Very nice.
