Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2016 M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc La Bernardine 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Light color of hay. Smell of citrus, peach and vanilla. Medium bodied with noticeable viscosity on the mouthfeel and yet a crispness from the lemon and peach flavors that are washed down with a salinity. Medium finish.

  • 2016 M. Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc Chante-Alouette 89 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Gold color. Much fuller color than the La Bernardine CdP. The nose was not very expressive at this time but I did get a floral note. Very creamy mouth feel with flowers and honeysuckle on the medium body and medium finish.

  • 2015 M. Chapoutier Luberon La Ciboise 88 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Luberon

Red fruit jumped from the glass with raspberry most notable. On the palate, raspberry, strawberry, followed by herbs (thyme). Medium body and the tannins were smooth but definitely present. Medium finish. This was a very quaffable wine to drink now or within the next 5 years.

  • 2016 M. Chapoutier Crozes-Hermitage Petite Ruche 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage

Bright magenta color. Very aromatic with a barbecued (even burned) meat, smoke and tobacco. It saw no barrel aging so I thought the amount of smoke was very interesting. Flavors of strawberry and tobacco and charred meat. Medium body. Medium-plus finish.

  • 2012 M. Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Slightest hint of bricking. Light aromas of berries, violet and bacon. Flavors of berry, bacon, tobacco and herbs. There is a complexity to the wine as the layers unfold. Medium body. Medium-plush finish. This was my favorite of the tasting. It is in a good spot now but feels like it will continue to develop.

  • 2015 M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Bernardine 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Raspberry and garrigue on the nose. The taste matches the nose with the addition of tobacco and cedar. The flavors are more concentrated than you expect based on the medium weight of the wine. It is very mouth coating and yet relatively light. Long finish. This wine has its best years ahead of it.
