Visit with Rosemary Ponsot and Alexandre Abel, then tasting with Alexandre. The wall in the cellar with exposed bedrock is one of the coolest things to see in Burgundy.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Racked two weeks ago. Red and blue fruit throughout with good density for its level. Tannic middle forward, so firm finish for now. Patience required.

• 2017 Domaine Ponsot Corton Cuvée du Bourdon

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Recently assembled. Charming floral start with more red > black fruit. Very elegant tannins, very nicely textured. Bright, long finish. 90-91+ point potential.

• 2017 Domaine Ponsot Chapelle-Chambertin

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Broad array of bright red cherry and berry with some background black cherry. Nose also showcases charming floral and spice character. Good+ weight, very good length, with an expanding finish already. Very impressive 92-93+ point potential.

• 2017 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Much less forthcoming. Dense red and black cherry on nose and palate. Bold and burly, there is a lot here, but it's all very backward. This will require 15 years in the cellar.

  Bottled 5 weeks ago. Expressive and fun red cherry with impressive weight for its level, especially in this vintage. Mostly from across RN74 between Gevrey and Morey with some young vines Gevrey added in. 87-88 point potential.

  Tasted at the domaine. Bottled 5 weeks ago. Restrained start with compact middle, then lots of cherry coming through on finish. From the top part of Monts Luisants.

• 2016 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

  Tasting at the domaine. So much red and black cherry that comes across as both charming and very bold. Elegant start the quickly expands and finishes with silky tannins and so much density. Wow wine, 95-96 point potential. Ponsot had a full crop in this vineyard, approximately 38 hl/ha.

  Tasting at the domaine. Bottle had been open for a few days. Pretty, east and fun, in a lighter style.
