Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2009 Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta 89 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Stood up for 5 days, still had some fine sediment in the last half of the bottle that hadn't settled. Decanted the first half of the bottle. Light-medium ruby; medium-plus intensity aromatics, darker fruit, tar; palate is medium bodied, high tannin, black tarry fruit; medium finish. Good but a bit heavy-handed and lacking the purity and crisp clarity of Vajra, at least in this vintage. 89
6 hours decanting: This has gotten more and more tannic. I need to wait until tomorrow at least.
Day 2: this has retained all the aromatic complexity but has much more integrated and approachable tannins. Better than yesterday. 89-90

  • 2008 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Les Forêts 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Day 2 after opening: Light golden; aromatic, butterscotch, slight oxidation, white fruit, complex; palate is medium-full bodied, still excellent acidity and freshness though certainly a bit oxidized, lemon rind; medium-long finish. A very nice wine. Even today, 91.

  • 2009 Jacques Lassaigne Champagne Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Millésimé 91 Points

    France, Champagne

Lemon-gold; lovely aromatics with brioche, toastiness, lemon, nice freshness but with good depth and complexity; palate is balanced, light-medium bodied, high acid but not out of balance, lemon-lime, slight oxidation; finish is medium length. Very nice. 91-92
