  • Popped this bottle and let it breathe for about 2 hours. This bottle was utterly spectacular. The nose indicated a powerhouse of a wine. Exquisite rose petals, some lavendar, a rich leather scent, approximating new buckskin. Some spice.

The palate was exceptional. Very fine tannins, and incredible acids made for a highly balanced wine. Very plush. Very sexy. Very masculine. Some raspberry, cloves, cinnamon, and dark anise. Excellent volume and tremendous length on the finish. Great concentration.

I will be seeking more of this sensational wine. The drinking window was perfect, though it could likely age far longer. In a great place now.

  • Still quite youthful, with rich dark fruit, softening tannins. Should continue to age gracefully. Try again 2023-2024.

  • Decanted for several hours and that helped to focus this powerhouse of a Barolo that shows youthful yet approachable in 2009. Fruit has a lusciousness and the tannins are fine, all the while staying traditional in personality.

  • Stood up for about a week before opening. 18 months on from the last bottle this is developing very slowly. It is still quite primary on both nose and palate and is very tannic with good acidity and lovely purity of fruit. Medium body and medium finish. The complexity is beginning to show and surely this will blossom if only patience can be invoked to leave it alone for a few more years.

  • Lunch with Rich: Stood up for 5 days, still had some fine sediment in the last half of the bottle that hadn't settled. Decanted the first half of the bottle. Light-medium ruby; medium-plus intensity aromatics, darker fruit, tar; palate is medium bodied, high tannin, black tarry fruit; medium finish. Good but a bit heavy-handed and lacking the purity and crisp clarity of Vajra, at least in this vintage. 89
6 hours decanting: This has gotten more and more tannic. I need to wait until tomorrow at least.
Day 2: this has retained all the aromatic complexity but has much more integrated and approachable tannins. Better than yesterday. 89-90
