an opportunity to try a few Beaujolais courtesy of Prince wine store.
Not the most exciting bunch of Beaujolais' I've tried. A couple of ones that I enjoyed - the Ch. Thivin and the Lapalu…
2016 Stephane Aviron Fleurie Vieilles Vignes Domaine De La Madriere
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie
Cherry, strawberry, very, very slight stalks and ash. Sourly juicy, softly fruited, short, simple and very expensive at $45

2016 Damien Coquelet Beaujolais-Villages
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages
Crushed rock solid, wild ferment, a little gun powder over pretty, jubey, red berry. More sour and stalky on the palate, a little gritty tannins. Hmm.

2016 Damien Coquelet Chiroubles
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Chiroubles
Ashy whole bunch, white pepper and black cherry, very slight clove and nutmeg. Juicy, peppery, ashy, fruit a little prettier here with grippy tannins. Hmm.

2018 Château Thivin Brouilly Reverdon
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Brouilly
Cherry fruit, pretty, jubey that is backed by a little meaty spice. Juicy, mouth watering acidity married to pretty, jubey, cherry and a little talc textured tannins. Nice

2015 Jean-Claude Lapalu Brouilly Croix des Rameaux
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Brouilly
Cedar, stalks, perfumed, a little pencil shavings. More blackcurrant than cherry fruit. In the mouth it's juicy, with but chamois soft tannins which dry out the palate a little lending a touch of yeast extract. The fruit persists long. A bit extracted but nice.

2017 Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais Origine Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
lozenge, slightly creamy, floral, cherry, pretty nose and it's equally pretty on the palate with a little talc textured burr and a tiny stalky note joins the flavours from the nose. Okay.

2017 Pierre-Marie Chermette Saint-Amour Les Champs-Grillés
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Saint-Amour
Again pretty and floral but this time with a little more seriousness. Oak, wild black cherry and plum, a little sweet spice, clay. Juicy acidity, flour textured tight tannins are a little large for the delicate fruit which gets a bit lost here. Hmm.

2017 Pierre-Marie Chermette Moulin-à-Vent Les Trois Roches
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent
Cedar, spice, slight sour cherry, wild ferment meatiness, controlled stalks, a little butter and cream, cherry fruit, structured, dense. Again a little too much work for the fruit. Perhaps Fuder would bet better than barriques? Hmm
