Flight 1 - STARTERS (1 Note)

  • 1996 Weingut Knoll Riesling Smaragd Ried Schütt 95 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

(Beringer Vertical, Milford) Another stellar performace. Great sweet tastes of peach, minerals, and flint, with great mouth watering acidity. Very long, and bone dry on the palate. An open bottle left overnight was even better. Killer stuff.

Flight 2 - BLIND FLIGHT (3 Notes)

  • 1994 Pahlmeyer Merlot 88 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Closed nose. A bit of oak and tobacco. The sweet cherry fruit that this wine exhibited on release is gone. But with some air (24 hours worth), it did peek out a bit. Still overall a dissappointment.

  • 1995 Pahlmeyer Merlot 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Rich, red cherry fruit, cedar, spice. Great finish. Seemed to have deteriorated a bit with air, but still a nice wine.

Flight 4 - DESSERT (1 Note)

  • 1922 D'Oliveiras Madeira Boal Reserva 92 Points

    Portugal, Madeira

Tawny brown in color, with hints of green on the rim. Explosive nose of coffee, caramel, and creme brulee. Medium sweet, with a soft lingering finish. A very nice wine, but a touch more acidity would push it to the EXCELLENT level.
