Introduction

Trip redeemed with KF Miles (Spontaneous Escapes) and mostly Marriott points

Flight 1 - Silverkris Lounge SIN T2 (3 Notes)

  • 2017 William Fèvre Chablis Champs Royaux 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

    (2/6/2020)

Pale lemon. Pronounced aromas of white flowers, chalk, and seashells. Quite intensely flavoured yet light bodied, giving a rather elegant feel, with flavours of lemon flowers, lemon zest, and a seashell-like yet creamy feel, like slurping down a plump Japanese oyster. Fairly long as well. Nice!

  • 2016 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Paraje Altamira 91 Points

Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco, Altamira

    (2/6/2020)

Medium ruby with a wee slight rim fading. Nose completely dominated by hazelnut and cocoa, and even a bit of peanut butter. Rounded tannins, fairly acidic, a pretty big alcohol burn, and a bucketload of pepper spices! There’s also the flavours of cocoa powder, burnt wood, and a bit of overripe cassis at the back. Can tell there’s quite a lot of extraction and oak aging time. Nice flavours, but would have wished it be more represented by the florals and fruits of the high altitude Malbec

  • 2016 Dandelion Vineyards Shiraz Lioness of McLaren Vale 91 Points

Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

    (2/6/2020)

Deep ruby and a slight fading at edges. Aromas of candied ripe blackberry and cassis, and a little bit of coffee grounds. Fairly tannic, silky, but lots of alcohol and full bodied. Flavours beginning with ripe blackberry, and then the pepper spices and coffee grounds take over. Finished pretty long. Nice one but would prefer that it has better balance, or on the other hand be bolder

Flight 2 - SQ982 SIN-BKK (3 Notes)

Business Class

  • NV Laurent-Perrier Champagne La Cuvée Brut 91 Points

    France, Champagne

    (2/6/2020)

Pale lemon, a good brightness, and fine beads. Faint almond aromas. Acidic and light bodied, with flavours of lemon and white florals, wet stone, and a slight almond nuttiness. Can see the elegance of a Chardonnay-driven bubbly. A pretty nice effort

  • 2016 Château Hostens-Picant 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Sainte Foy Bordeaux

    (2/6/2020)

Deep pinkish ruby, nearly homogeneous to the edges. Aromas of pepper, paprika, cherry, and some slight grassy sense. Fair acids, lots of tannin structure, with some slight florals, medium-ripe cherry and blackberry, tomato leaf, grass, and a slight whitish smoke, which I gather is attributed to the unique terroir of Saint Foy. Finish was fair at best, but a pretty good quality overall

  • 2016 Henschke Henry's Seven 92 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa

    (2/6/2020)

Deep ruby, homogeneous, thick legs, significant extraction. Ripe cassis aromas, some paprika spices, cloves, tar, peat, and a bit of stewed meat. Good intensity, tannic, acidic, and full bodied, with ripe blackberry and cherry flavours, and a back of smokes and tar. Fair finish. Pretty well made

Flight 3 - In Bangkok (2 Notes)

Wines are brought from home, did not buy any wines in Bangkok

  • 2015 Carmen Chardonnay Gran Reserva 91 Points

    Chile, Limarí Valley

    (2/7/2020)

Pale gold. Ripe lemon curd and pineapple aromas, with some green salad leaves, white pepper, and bit of almond. The almond flavours show up more on the palate along with the ripe pineapple and mango, bit of cloves, and a creamy buttery sense. Fair finish. Good efforts put into this

  • 2008 Château Léoville Poyferré 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    (2/7/2020)

Deep purplish ruby, with some rim variation from age. Ripe blackberry and cool mint aromas, and some cloves, roses, and a bit of caramel, cocoa, and beef stew. Well-structured, fairly high acid and alcohol, and intensely flavoured, of savoury meats, black cherry and bit of cassis, and a caramel and mint chocolate undertone, which stretches pretty far to a good lengthy finish. Great wine!

Flight 4 - Silverkris Lounge BKK (2 Notes)

  • 2018 Georges Dubœuf Chardonnay 91 Points

France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc

    (2/9/2020)

Pale lemon. Pronounced melon aromas, somewhat leafy, and rich ripe sweet mango and guava. Can instead get intense lemon pulp and rind flavours on the palate, and a slight background stone, brine, and seafood. Simple, straightforward, not much textures, but generally a nice one

  • 2017 Georges Dubœuf Pinot Noir 88 Points

France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc

    (2/9/2020)

Pale ruby, and homogeneous. Quite a bit of floral and red fruited aromas, even a slight bit of cherry cola. Some sour cherry and savoury notes, but otherwise undermined by a high alcohol burn, and some tight tannins. Good thing is that the structure kept the cherry flavours going on to the back and thereby making it quite persistent, otherwise would have been uninspiring and flat

Flight 5 - SQ981 BKK-SIN (2 Notes)

Business Class

  • 2017 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

    (2/9/2020)

Pale gold. A wet stone driven nose, with slight white florals. On the palate, the acids are rather soft, giving a creamy feel, and some lemons and zest, as well as bit of brine and shells towards the back. It’s a straightforward Chablis, but one that is pretty enjoyable

  • NV Morris Muscat Classic Rutherglen 94 Points

    Australia, Victoria, North East, Rutherglen

    (2/9/2020)

Medium tawny. Huge nose of Kirsch and Kahlua, and even some roasted caramel and hazelnuts. Dessert sweet, with strong coffee, butterscotch, and caramel flavours, tapering off to a slight mushroomy fungal feel at the back. Full bodied, even syrupy, punch of alcohol, and otherwise really smooth. Long finish. A real treat!
