Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2002 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Side-by-side with the '03. More juicy and red-fruited here and the spice is a bit more intense. Bright and fresh. In a peak zone but should hold for 10 years.

  • 2003 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Side-by-side with the '02. This was a bit more concentrated and black-fruited. Another very good 2003 from Jadot with no signs of roasted fruit or heat. A beefy and substantial wine that should continue to age for 10 years.

  • 2002 Henri Boillot Clos Vougeot 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

This is now past peak as the fruit is thinning out and the wood is prominent in both flavor (vanilla) and structure (coarse wood tannin). Dry finish.

  • 2002 Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos Vougeot 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Singing on both the nose and palate. Aromas earth, smoke and spice interlaced with black cherry. Palate is supple with juicy, concentrated cherry fruit. Intense spice. Really good and in a zone. Very Vosne-like.

  • 1996 Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos Vougeot 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Fairly awkward now with a muddled focus. Earthy black cherry is there but it's muted and clunky.
