Wine Group Christmas Tasting of 5 Cabernet Sauvignon . Was tasted twice this month at $50 retail. this wine was seen by several tasters as light on fruit. However, I found it to have a rich, fruity nose that's slightly closed, lush, rich, blackberry fruit and currants in the mouth, very structured and forward tasting compared to the 1985 and 1986, long, concentrated cabernet and enough acid to suggest this wine needs 7 years of cellaring. My #1.
Wine Group Christmas Tasting of 5 Cabernet Sauvignons. At $35 was a fantastic wine. rich, cabernet forward fruit on the nose, followed by rich, tasty almost forward fruit in the mouth, lots of cabernet fruit and acid during the long finish, promises great things for the person who waits 4 years. My #2.
Wine Group Christmas Tasting of 5 Cabernet Sauvignons. Was also tasted twice this month at $45. This wine shows a big Monte Bello stink that blows off slowly and a herbal nose, slight hint of stink in the mouth that is overshadowed by big, brooding soft fruit combined with hints of bell pepper, spice, long finish with lots of fruit and acid for ageing-about 5 years. My #3.
Wine Group Christmas Tasting of 5 Cabernet Sauvignons. For $75 featured a stemy, moist earth nose, rich, ripe, concentrated, brooding fruit almost forward in the mouth, shows lots of future potential, great potential for complexity on the finish. Still it was definitely not a typical cabernet for many people including me. My #4.
Wine Group Christmas Tasting of 5 Cabernet Sauvignons. Was a pleasant surprise compared to two years ago. the wine has a pleasant, minty, fruity nose that leads to more of the same in the mouth with hints of eucalyptus, mint, and chocolate, long, pleasant finish and aftertaste. paled in comparison with its peers. I would enjoy it more with steak and baked potato in two years. My #5.

This has improved the last three years and is a current favorite, with rich, Riesling fruit on the nose, pleasant served chilled on a warm afternoon, medium body and finish, tasty with turkey sandwiches and cranberry.
