Darker color than the three versions of DP 1996 in the flight, this is powerful and rich, but getting tired. There has been considerable bottle variation over the past five years.

Lots of green and yellow apple, lemon curd, lemon zest, toasted almond and rye bread. Very rich and powerful. My favorite of tonight's many great bottles of Champagne.

I have had mixed results with this wine, and tonight's was rich and tasty but also more bready/ leesy than I prefer. I enjoyed both "P2" and "P1" from this vintage in the same flight more.

Plenty of ripe apple and pear start-to-finish with floral, spice and toasted brioche all in the near background. Very clean, bright and long with enticing freshness on finish. I bought this at release and it was well stored since.

In 07/08/09/10 vertical, all open several hours in advance, none decanted. Lots of red fruit with plenty of spice and some earth. Very elegant and well balanced, but if served blind I would not of thought Grand Cru based on its density.

In 07/08/09/10 vertical, all open several hours in advance, none decanted. This is the first time I've had this wine in a non "tasting" setting and it was really shining tonight when given the attention it deserved. Bright red cherry and berry are very fresh and front-and-center, so wonderfully supported by spice, perfume and tannic elements. Rich, yet balanced. The best of the 4 vintages for now, even if 2010 will probably be better in the future.

In 07/08/09/10 vertical, all open several hours in advance, none decanted. The most hedonistic of the flight, and also the most spice-driven, there is so much ripe red and black cherry with some berry notes that are completely enticing and fun, but seriously balanced on its long finish.

In 07/08/09/10 vertical, all open several hours in advance, none decanted. Sensational aromatic start (best of the flight) showcasing perfumed red and black berry with clear concentration. Palate doesn't quite deliver everything the nose implies, showing some backwardness that will soften with more time in the glass/ cellar. Really great 95-96 point potential.

This got slightly lost following a Dujac 07/08/09/10 CdlR vertical, but was so enjoyable in its own way. Expressing the vintage ripeness perfectly, with plenty of plum black and red cherry, with plenty of spice and meat. Perhaps still a bit of new oak coming through, but this is nicely fresh and long. Entering its peak drinking window.

Dried apricot with candied lemon peel showing ripe fruit and botrytis character in harmony and overall good balance.

Lots and lots here but I think it still needs more time for the underlying sweetness to soften slightly more. Very good potential.

Very nice, but less complex vs 2000, 2002 or 2006. This seemed overwhelmingly driven by botrytis.

From 375 ml bottle. Possibly the least powerful of the 4 vintages, but the best balanced. Mango, peach and candied orange peel with a bit of apple, all well supported by good minerality.

2002 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 94 Points
France, Champagne
Great cross-section of orchard and citrus fruit with good+ weight, even better length and textural beauty. Another very good bottle.

2002 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 96 Points
France, Champagne
Lots of orchard fruit with hints of toasted rye and floral notes. An absolute powerhouse with lots of brilliant textures. Some thought this slightly shut, but I found it glorious and easily the best of a great 2002 flight.

2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne 95 Points
France, Champagne
Lots of apple aromas and flavors with some candied lemon peel. Powerful and fresh with very good length. I slightly preferred this over P2 tonight.

2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne P2 94 Points
France, Champagne
Alongside the initial 2002 release. This had a similar profile with more depth, but also a slightly more bready/ yeasty character that made me prefer the initial release for tonight, even while both were great.
