Introduction

*Actually many wines tasted over the dinner, but as I had to help with hosting, had only managed to note only a few more memorable ones, be it really good, or interesting appellations/ stories behind*

Dinner course from Praelum:
- roasted duck breast, spring summer salad
- smoky pork and beef ball stew, garlic bread
- mushroom risotto, shitake, egg
- roasted chicken leg, zucchini and eggplant milanese, garlic butter mash

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2015 G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Pale ruby with slight fading edges. Pronounced nose with floral rosy aromas and some cherry and cloves. Tannins are big, though somewhat rounded perhaps from the decant, bright acids, and a fairly good weight and with a good floral and fruit intensity, to the point of being voluptuous. Definitely feels of a modern-styled Barolo, and a well made one at that

  • 2015 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Pale ruby. Nose seems to be slightly subdued, but shows much more on the palate. Tannins were high, but linear and clean, with bright cherry fruits of medium ripeness, as well as the classic roses and tar. With that clean palate, it surprising led to a long persistent finish. Great wine!

  • 2013 Travaglini Gattinara 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Gattinara

Medium ruby. Quite a good intensity on the nose and palate, and a good weight. Aromas and flavours of cherry, cloves, roses and tar. Good structure with intensity to boot

  • 2015 Mamete Prevostini Valtellina Superiore - Sassella Sommarovina 92 Points

Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore - Sassella

Pale ruby. Aromas of roses and some greyish stones. High tannins, but nicely balanced with bright acids and fairly strong flavours, of red cherry, tar, and roses, as well as a nice savoury briny sense. Nice!
