  • Excellent and elegant nose, flowers and fruit. Very persistent on the palate. Spicy, crispy, brilliant.

  • Slow-oxed in the bottle in a cool environment.

Ethereal nose with lots of floral aromas (dried as well as some fresh), sweet tobacco, red and a hint of purple berries, licorice, tar, lots of cherries, a little vanilla.

Nice acidity and freshness despite the the warm vintage - grippy, but not overpowering tannins.

More potential to come - hold.

  • Pulled the cork on the bottle accessed by Coravin in March.

Words cannot properly express the quality and tasting experience of this exceptional wine. The bouquet delivers Barolo's finest essences, with unique terroir twists, that shade to Barbaresco. Positively delightful!

The palate, which aligns with the bouquet, rivets the senses with waves of powerful substance and layered nuance. Leaning slightly delicate for Barolo, the expansive middle and gripping back change inflection many times over. The no quit finish invites long contemplation of all that makes life meaningful.

A top QPR Barolo, in any vintage, regardless of price. This bottle had twelve to fifteen years of evolution ahead. Drink through 2045. 96-97.

  • Dark cherry, cinnamon, Xmas spices, mineral. Seems a little too hot and ripe, but quite delicious.

Tasted blind side by side with Produttori del Barbaresco Montestefano 2015, more depth and more wine for the Barolo, the Barbaresco felt thinner with less meat around the bone, dark fruit, tobacco leaves, roses, nice balance, good depth and great potential.

  • First of 3. Opened 3-1/2hrs before first sips & sniffs. Slow-oxed in my slightly oversized Shott Swiesel Burg glasses & btl. Serving temp: upper 50s - low 60s. Love love the nose even on the cork pull. Loaded with floral roses, underbrush & berries. Palate is suave, elegant and well fruited but plenty of polished tannin and acidity to keep this uber fresh and never sluggish. Hint of citrus and licorice. 14.5alc goes unnoticed. My favorite cuvee from my all-round favorite Barolo producer. So glad to have 8 vintages in the cellar. If someone only wanted to have a small position of terrific Barolo, Vajra is your producer and Bric delle Violle the cuvee. I've regretted more than a few purchases in my wine buying, but never Vajra! 94+

  • Nicely balanced, structure and acidity, red berries, floral, dried tobacco leaves. Simply left the bottle uncorked a few hours before the meal, it showed even more finesse. Could have waited a few more years for those tannins to soften even more but honestly, so good now, why wait and risk it?

  • Coravin access. Tasted alongside the same vintage Vietti Castiglione and PdB Montefico.

The hands down winner, at every phase! The ethereal bouquet bends the bind, evokes all the finest senses, and uplifts the soul. Violets, roses, sweet red and purple berries, sweet pipe tobacco, wintergreen, mint, menthol, and light petrol. Friggin' gorgeous!

Powerful substance throughout. A wine of the ever-lovin'-earth! Hell Yeah! It tastes like it smells and graces every part of the palate. Medium plus to high acid. Medium to medium plus, deceptively fine tannins. The whole package! The back delivers incredible grip and the finish knows no quit...nor apparently the definition thereof.

Among the finest Barolo or Barbaresco offerings I have crossed path with...ever. Ravishing! Worth seeking out! 97-98!

  • Drank over 2 nights - great on both. Medium red color. On nose, citrus, tart cherry, strawberry - full body, medium acidity, medium+ tannins and very long finish. On palate, sweet/sour cherry combination. Very much enjoyed this and would buy again. 93-94 range.

  • This might be just starting to come around a little. See my prior notes as the 15 Bricco here remains fairly rustic and hard compared to other years. Good nonetheless but will require years.

  • This is a wonderful wine. Rich with a long finish. Tannins are still huge on this, so give it more time (try again in 5 years?). A real pleasure to drink this beauty.

  • Sampled at Oinoscent during service, bottle brought by colleague straight from Italy, 2hr decant

The wine shows medium intensity, very fragrant, pot pouri, ripe fresh red cherries, currant, earthy, olive notes, sweet oak notes, decadent and welcoming.
In the palate, the wine shows elegant profile again, high acidity, and angular tannins (but its stil a baby), red fresh cherry notes, a few sweet spice and oak notes. The wine feels its inbetween phases now, but its starting to lose its primary character. The tannins are aggressive (due to youth and not unripeness), medium body, long finish.
    This will need some time

  • Barolo theme: On opening this was a mess, showing as a wine that was way too modern and ripe. Everyone agreed on 2015 as the vintage for this one. I was quite disappointed after loving the 13 and 16 of this wine, but after a few hours this settled down to become a brilliant wine. The alcohol and vanilla on the nose had dissipated to give a nose of strawberries and a little VA, palate had plush fruit of cranberries and cherries that led to a mineral finish. Showed similarly to my experience with the 2016 which also oscillated between the sublime and the ridiculous.

  • Tight and the nose wasn’t giving much. Garnet in glass. Nose filled with cherries, plum, menthol and rose. Medium + to high acidity coupled with high tannins making it a little tough to drink even after 3-4 hours of decanting. Nice long finish. I will be holding the rest of my bottles.

  • Immediately expressive, with highly-perfumed aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, cherry and rose petals. It is full and generous in the mouth, with plenty of savoury nuance and a silky texture. There's a gentle flex of muscle to the finish letting you know that structure is substantial, but buried beneath the flesh for now.

  • N violets, black plum, cherry, tobacco, tar
P cherry, rose water, kirsch, blood orange, tobacco
F long in length, high tannin, and high acid.
Overall a very nice wine, that needs at least another decade or so.

  • Same note as before. Needs time to soften and gain depth. An overnight in the bottle made a big difference.

  • After 45 minutes in a carafe (probably needs much longer). Medium brick red in color. Cherries, floral notes, cumin, volatile organics on the nose. Plums and cranberries on the palate. Medium+ acid with slightly drying tannins. Medium- body. Drank half the bottle with dinner and stoppered the bottle after decanting 1/2. I’ll finish it off tomorrow and continue the review tomorrow.

  • Finished the bottle tasted in November.

Among the prettiest, most Barbaresco-like, bouquets I have experienced in Barolo. Powerful floral perfume and essences, including fruit blossoms, seductive forest-ripened berries, acerola and rose hip, and light petrol notes.

Striking range and depth! The wine shape-shifts repeatedly, from the attack, through the unclockable finish. Beguiling textures forward, massive tannic structure at the back. Everything as it should be...and then some. The aromatics alone merit a 95 point score. The substance, structure, and balance put it over the top.

A 25 to 30 year wine from today!

  • Opened in the bottle for seven plus hours. Softer and more approachable than expected but still a baby with sharp edges. Medium bodied, high acid, gripping tannins and a generous amount of sweet red fruit up front. Truffle, menthol, damp earth, and rose compliment. Always a sucker for this bottling. Give it time if you have the storage but already easier to enjoy than 13.

  • Awfully hard to find a fault with this wine. Gentle and red-fruited, but also quite chalky and mineral. Tightened up quite a bit on the second night, as young Nebbiolo often does (do not decant young Nebbiolo!). Doubt this will ever shut down. Who needs the more heralded vintages when they make wines like this?

  • Really young and compact. Shows that medicinal quality, sort of like an aloe wrapping, to the red fruits. Savory, dense tannin but in a medium bodied package. This should be really good with 8-10 years or more, depending on your preferences. It was interesting enough to follow over a couple of days (where it barely budged) to get a read on it.

  • Coravin pour.

Tasted during a several period which included many 93-96 point wines. This bested all but one.

Highly aromatic floral and ripe forest berry elements throughout, followed by traditional Nebbiolo markers. This noted, if blind, I would have taken it for Barbaresco.

The wine tastes as it smells. So suave up front that the veritable tannin wall, however ripe and classy, almost took me by surprise. High tension purple flowers and berries, roses, orange marmalade, and light petrol. Gorgeous and delicious!

Overall, while the color strongly suggested Nebbiolo, and the tannins left not doubt, something about it put my mind to great vintage Corton Clos du Roi.

Nothing less than a three decade wine from today. If drinking now, unlike the 2016 Vietti, which holds its deep tannin substance in check for a half hour after opening, here, the tannin shows immediately. Thus, best to decant for several hours and prepare for the tannin pain...or pleasure...depending upon viewpoint. Improvement seems likely. 97-98...99?

  • Tasted as part of an online Vajra tasting. Bottle was open for about an hour before tasting. This was surprisingly accessible. Red fruits along with floral and mint accents. I guess polished is not the right word, but there is finesse and elegance here. The fruit is generous, as with a lot of 15's but there is structure as well. This bottle was finished quickly with our meal of pasta and mushroom ragu and was hands down everyone's favorite wine of the night. Very nice.

  • PnD let air for 2hr.

Very closed on the nose and palate. Classy but a bit austere at this point with some tar and rose to go with cherry green tea plum and strawberry.

Total infanticide to have it at this point. This will get way better.

  • Fine Wines SG - Nebbiolo BYOB (Praelum Wine Bistro): Pale ruby with slight fading edges. Pronounced nose with floral rosy aromas and some cherry and cloves. Tannins are big, though somewhat rounded perhaps from the decant, bright acids, and a fairly good weight and with a good floral and fruit intensity, to the point of being voluptuous. Definitely feels of a modern-styled Barolo, and a well made one at that

  • 2020 Tre Biccheri (Bridgeport arts center, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is plush and balanced with violets, licorice, dark red cherries, raspberries, spice notes, herbs, and some earth tones. There is good depth already but it is on the tighter side at this moment.

Taste: The feel is medium/full bodied with youthful, high acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is clearly youthful and there is an excellent red-fruited base of dark red cherries, raspberries, spice notes, herbs, and violets.

Overall: This is youthful but also clearly a serious wine. This will need a few years to come together, but there is excellent depth and balance showing already.

  • Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Tasting (Bridgeport Arts Center - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Elegant throughout with a bright start, more densely packed middle, then once again a bright finish. Very good length. I enjoyed this a lot more today vs when tasted a few months back. Tre bicchieri.

  • Made with old vine Nebbiolo from one of the highest altitude, south-facing vineyards in Barolo. Clean, with tart red fruit, roses, field herbs and judicious oak spice. Dry palate, with med (+) to high acidity, med (+) tannins (softer than the Ravera). The acohol is high (14.5%) but appears med (+). Beautiful, aromatic, with med (+) flavor intensity and length. Surprisingly approachable yet still quite young and linear. Has lots of upside potential.

  • More intense and broad aromas with lovely aromatics of red deeper berries and seductive roses. Full bodied wine with a good and rounder mouthfeel of cherries, morels, spices and leather. Good juicy style. Pure acidity and tannin structure. Missing some details in the vintage, but this is certainly a very representative Nebbiolo. 92 points.

  • Thanksgiving week in Piemonte; 11/22/2019-11/30/2019 (Milan, Barolo, Alba, Barbaresco): Tasted at the winery. The most historical vineyard for the family - which benefits from cooling breezes from the Alps. Aromatic nose. Nice and balanced with quite a bit of grip. Needs time to integrate.

  • Never tried a wine from this producer before. And knowing this is a big name in Piemonte, I was eager to try. But I was actually a bit disappointed by this wine. Like most well-made Barolo's this wine has a gorgeous nose earth, mushrooms, red fruit etc. But the taste was quite a letdown - a thin, sharp and acidic taste made this wine rather unfocused. Clearly too young (2015 vintage) but knowing how this wine represent itself here in 2019 I'm certainly not going to pay 87€ to see how it evolves... move on

  • Gordon's Festa d'Italia (Artists for Humanity Center - Boston MA): Walk around tasting. Lighter style for the vintage with good fruit concentration and tannins from the middle through finish. Needs time, good 88+ point potential.

  • Le Langhe 2019; 10/26/2019-11/1/2019 (Le Langhe, Piedmont, Italy): Sweet spicy fruit and a leathery note initially, quite dark and brooding. Then shows peony, rose and some blackberry. Plenty of fine tannin and stuffing, mouth coating. Very long elegant finish. Excellent. Needs 10 years.

  • Tasted at the Cantina. Attractive wine but clearly needs more time. The tannins are pronounced but the fruit is pure.

  • This was just delicious, classic Barolo nose, impeccable balance, good depth & length

  • Sweet red berries, crushed flowers, some sweet spices, mint, tar, rose petals. It‘s medium-full bodied, with high tannin providing austerity, but also medium-high acidity. Good length. A very good, slightly austere Bricco delle Viole.
Day 2 and it stayed a little austere and dry. This year, I think the Ravera might be the better wine.
Day 3 and the BDV is starting to open up. Beautifully aromatic, fresh and tense. I guess we will have to wait a few years...

  • The nose was deeply expressive yet also remarkably fresh, showing ripe cherries with sweet spice, and dusty florals. On the palate, I found soft textures, showing a mix of bright cherry and cranberry, giving way to zesty acids and spice, with youthfully angular tannins building toward the finale. The finish was long, remaining fresh throughout through brisk acidity, while notes of tart cherry, hard red candies and hint of sweet florals resonated.

It pays to mention that three days after opening this wine that it still continued to deliver and hardly budged from my initial tasting note. This bodes well for the future of the '15 Bricco delle Viole.

  • Rich and exotic nose, a little bit of a toasted and roasted quality. Dark cherry, plum strawberry, violets, licorice, clay and dried mushrooms. Full and textured. Lots of tannin and texture, but way too young and will need 10 years to soften properly. Excellent and classic.

  • A Bricco delle Viole Vertical with Giuseppe Vaira (Fausto, Brooklyn, NY): [Double decanted at 5pm.] Straight from the winery. Rich nose of meat and black fruits. Medium length. Hard to judge so young. So delicious now, but needs time. 92-94

  • With Isidoro

A cooler nose with violets, tar, darker nebbiolo fruit. Structured and sappy with density and outstanding balance. Subtly powerful and vertical. It is compact, but I think there is a lot here inside that will shine in time. Firm tannins on back end. Very well balanced if turned inward some right now. One built for the cellar.

  • Highest and the cloestest to the Alps and all white soil and the most amount of sunlight you can get in Barolo and also the greatest temperature change in Barolo. Both single vienyards are 55 days skin contact on sub merged cask and all slovoniena oak.

Again truffle on the nose with dark fruit underneath.

The high ridge in the back of Barolo.

And that has got some tannin on the back end. Whew!

  • Piedmont; 2/11/2019-2/15/2019 (Alba, Italy): To be released in April. The oldest vines here are 50-70 years old. A red-fruited and gentle wine, with a somewhat subdued presence, especially in light of the extremely solar 2015 vintage. The earthiness is supplemented by a slight bit of Swedish berries and other pleasant red fruit elements. There's a bit of a gummy candy sensation here, and I think there's just a hint of this being a touch candied. Velvety tannins that sneak up on you -- you don't expect so many given the light profile of the wine. There's an interesting sensation of salinity in this wine as well that I do like. This wine sees about 8-9 months in bottle, with aging in botti for 32 months (my notes say 42 but that doesn't make any sense at all). 40-45 days of fermentation; the last 20 days with a submerged cap as a pumpover at that point is too aggressive.
