  • 2005 Franz Hirtzberger Riesling Smaragd Singerriedel 92 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

*** brief notes from online blind tasting ***
Note is based on a tasting sip in the morning on day one, ~4cl on the evening and 0,1l filled in a bottle and sealed with argon gas on the evening of day three.
    Glass: Zalto Universal
Clean, medium golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Clearly botrytis driven, orange zests and blossoms, spices, dried apricot, mango.
Dry with some noticeable sugar “tail”. Acidity seemed rather medium at first, but is certainly high, just fights with the 14% abv and the high extract. On the palate vanilla, phenolic bitterness, zests, spices, honey all driven by botrytis. Good pressure and tension, lots of extract. Creamy, dense and deep, but also a bit broad and sweet. Long finish with bitter orange notes and orange marmalade. General potential for 10+ years, but this particular bottle certainly not. 92-93

  • 2003 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** (White Capsule) 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

*** brief notes from online blind tasting ***
Note is based on a tasting sip in the morning on day one, ~4cl on the evening and 0,1l filled in a bottle and sealed with argon gas on the evening of day three.
    Glass: Zalto Universal
Late release, ex winery. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium+ intense youthful-developing nose. Lots of anise and spices, floral notes, icing sugar, hints of oak?. Very round and soft, reminded a lot of Viognier and not of Riesling.
“Mosel” dry, meaning only legally dry. Lacks a bit of acidity. 13,5% abv. Very powerful and dense on the palate. Spices, oak, phenolic bitter notes, floral, herbaceous, candied orange peel. Round and soft, creamy mouthfeel. Deep. Lacks a bit tension. Long and lingering. Certainly a very good wine, but a bit too weird and lacking energy for my taste. 93-94

  • 2002 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

*** brief notes from online blind tasting ***
Note is based on a tasting sip in the morning on day one, ~4cl on the evening and 0,1l filled in a bottle and sealed with argon gas on the evening of day three.
    Glass: Zalto Universal
Clear deep garnet color with tawny/brown edges. Clean, medium intense, fully developed nose with some leather, spices, meat, tobacco and some green, harsh notes.
Dry, high, quite well integrated acidity. 13% abv. Medium+, fine grained tannin. Fine red fruit, leather, meat, some green/harsh notes. Elegant, good balance, nice texture. Lacks the usual pressure, depth and tension of Mouline, but a very good effort for this very complicated year. I would say, that it has not much potential and will rather decline with time, so drink up now. 91

Dry, high acidity. 15,5% abv, but almost perfectly integrated and barely noticeable, pretty amazing. Fine, silky and high tannin. Lots of red fruit, cinnamon and other spices, lots of crushed stones, tar, violets. Lots of extract and sweetness from it and the alcohol. Very dense and deep. Very good balance, great texture, tension and grip. Silky, velvet texture. Very long, fruity and floral finish. Wonderful and astonishing wine. Potential for at least 10+ years. 94+

  • 2006 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta 93 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore

*** brief notes from online blind tasting ***
Note is based on a tasting sip in the morning on day one, ~4cl on the evening and 0,1l filled in a bottle and sealed with argon gas on the evening of day three.
    Glass: Riedel Sommelier Bordeaux
Clear, deep, ruby with some garnet/tawny reflexes. Clean, medium intense, developing nose with some ref fruit, tar, oak, violets, espresso, dark chocolate. Very dense and deep.
Dry, medium+ acidity. 14,5% abv. High, fine, a bit drying tannin. Full bodied without being fat or broad. Red fruit, spices, oak, dried petals, espresso, dried fruit, dark chocolate. Rather fresh, beautiful texture, great depth and density, rather complex. Long finish. I would assume that this wine will age perfectly and will not change much with time. This is a timeless beauty. 92-93.

    Glass: Zalto Universal
Clear, medium golden color. Clean, pronounced, developing classic Grünhaus nose: Cassis, elder, tangerine, slightly petrol. Airy, fresh and complex. Beautiful!
Medium-dry, high, wonderful integrated, racy acidity. 8,5% abv. Very fresh with lots of cassis, elder, herbs, crushed stones, grapefruits. Juicy, such a joy to drink. So amazing to see, that this rather lean and light wine can have such a density, depth and tension. Long and lingering, beautiful finish. Grünhaus Spätlese at its full peak! 93

*** brief notes from online blind tasting ***
Note is based on a tasting sip in the morning on day one, ~4cl on the evening and 0,1l filled in a bottle and sealed with argon gas on the evening of day three.
    Glass: Zalto Universal
Clear, medium golden amber color. Clean, pronounced and fully developed nose. Amazing depth and complexity that only really great Riesling Auslese can produce. Dried fruit, crushed stones, exotic fruit, wonderful integrated botrytis.
Sweet, but the sweetness has perfectly blended in over the last three decades. High, still perfectly integrated acidity. Creamy mouthfeel with a wonderful tension, harmony and balance. Never loud, but always present! Acacia, dried apricot, fine crushed stones, herbs, botrytis, honey. Dense, deep, great pressure and very long. My personal surprise this night. At its very peak. 94
