Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • NV Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Cuvée No. 741

    France, Champagne

Brief tasting note, winery visit. Honey, lemon curd, a bit of toast and texture. Very fresh, probably needs more time to open up. Jean-Herve says these (741 & 742) releases are 'incredibly similar', moreso than any two others since they began releasing this cuvee over a decade ago.

  • NV Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Cuvée No. 742

    France, Champagne

Brief tasting note, winery visit. Chowder! Some mineral character, a creaminess and toast are noted as well as zesty lime flavors. Slightly more expressive than 741 today. Jean-Herve says these (741 & 742) releases are 'incredibly similar', moreso than any others since they began releasing this cuvee over a decade ago.

  • NV Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Cuvée No. 737 Dégorgement Tardif

    France, Champagne

Brief tasting, winery visit. Mild pale gold color with moderate bubbles. Sea shell, ripe red apple, caramel (not sweet), with orchard fruits in spades. Jean-Herve says many sommeliers prefer the DT series because of the freshness these bottles still have even after extensive time on cork.

  • 2008 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Dizy Corne Bautray Extra-Brut

    France, Champagne

Brief tasting note, winery visit. Attractive and rich nose of honey, creme brulee, caramel again. Bright yet soft red fruits and minerality of great depth carry the day with this wine. Exceptional.

  • 2008 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Grand Cru Avize Champ Cain

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Brief tasting note, winery visit. Salty nose with red apple and chalk, with round and elegant (but not heavy) mouth-coating flavors that fan out over a very lengthy finish. One might think it difficult to taste the three single-vineyard wines in succession, except each was giving so much today. Amazing wine. 10.8-10.9% potential alcohols at harvest.

  • 2008 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Aÿ Vauzelle Terme

    France, Champagne

Brief tasting note, winery visit. Expressive cinnamon, ginger, spice, even a trace of soy and miso on the nose, this cuvee showed exceptional minerality with a slightly softer finish than the 08 Avize and Dizy single vineyard wines. A very long life and positive development surely ahead here. Many have noted this storied Champagne vintage may bode better for wines based on red grapes..

  • 2013 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Dizy Terres Rouges Rosé

    France, Champagne

Brief tasting note, winery visit. A grassy (weed) note on the nose, with fleshy citrus (lime) flavors. Tentatively planned for release in 2022 or later.

  • 1988 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Signature Brut

    France, Champagne

Brief tasting note, at the winery, direct from the cellar. Deep lemon color belies the age compared to today's younger cuvees. Zesty nose of lemon, pineapple, cream and honey, this shows a touch less fresh today (perhaps only in comparison, again) but with marked flavors of cheese curd (leesy quality), mint, salt and herbs. A beguiling wine today.
