Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2008 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

Tasted blind. Light ruby, minimal bricking; moderately aromatic, red fruited, youthful; palate is light bodied, black cherry and red fruits, high acidity, relatively low alcohol, fairly youthful in terms of its character and evolution, fades just a bit through the midpalate; finish is medium length. A very nice but young burgundy. 91

  • 2008 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Tasted blind. Light ruby, slight bricking; aromatic, slightly smoky, black cherry, slight tar; palate is light-medium bodied, high acidity, low alcohol, black cherry and darker fruits combined with a touch of soy and umami, excellent persistence through the midpalate; finish is medium-plus. Seems high quality, at early maturity, but still with time ahead of it. 91

  • 2008 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Light ruby, slight bricking; aromatic, spices, slight soy, forest floor, some mature red fruits; palate is light bodied, high acidity, low alcohol, acidity and freshness carries this through the midpalate though the fruit fades; finish is medium length. Seems like this is at maturity and showing tertiary character. 91
On retaste, I really enjoy the aromatics on this. Elegant, complex, good depth. My favorite of the 3. 92
On reveal, an excellent showing. Really lovely, drinking really well, excellent QPR. 92+

    Tasted blind. • 1986 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Tasted blind. Medium-deep ruby with minimal bricking; aromatic, plummy, purple fruited; palate is full bodied, medium acidity, medium alcohol, again fruit is more purple to black rather than red, flavors a bit clipped through the midpalate and the medium-minus finish. Very nice, possibly some low level TCA but it's showing so much I'm not sure. I will rate it, but I'm not sure it's 100%. 90

  • 1986 Château Gruaud Larose 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Tasted blind. Medium-plus ruby, slight bricking; moderately aromatic with blackberry, red cherry, blackcurrant, slight green pepper/capsicum; palate is full bodied, integrated tannins, lovely fruit which is at perfect early maturity, surprisingly high acid, medium alcohol; finish is medium-plus. Seems at early maturity with seamless tannins and nice balanced fruit. 93
