Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2008 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Nose: strawberry, cherry, hoisin, earthy notes. P. tart a little tannin, earthy dark fruit, balance, very pale. Med+ finish. Quite good, based on the nose I thought perhaps a little older, but palate is very robust. Well resolved at this point.

  • 2008 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Beatiful red fruited nose - so much strawberry and hints of sous bois. Very nicely rich palate with more red fruit, earthy notes and medium-long finish. The acid here is more predominant but the tannins have mostly resolved. Extremely nice, especially after a couple hours of air. Certainly ready to go now, especially with food that balances the (in no way overwhelming).

  • 2008 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis

Sweet strawberry nose, very fresh and showy. Still a bit tannic, crunchier, with a darker fruited palate. Very good balance, but pretty acidic and mouthwatering, the 2008 vintage showing through. Very long.

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 1986 Château Gruaud Larose 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Light-Medium nose with light red fruit and green pepper/leather wafting through. Mid-weight palate with a little softness in the middle, but with a strong energetic, tart finish with good length and some acid and tannin still remaining. Very nice now, especially on the finish.

  • 1986 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Rich nose with soft red fruit and lots of earthy tobacco over a nicely dense palate with more red fruit, earth, red pepper. More integrated than other wines tonight, very enjoyable showing. Initially showed a little funk - cork? - that blew off but makes me wonder if this was a bit muted because of it.

  • 1986 Château Meyney 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

For me a very strong showing, punching above its weight class (some 2nds). Beautiful red fruited nose loaded with cherry and hinting at leather and tobacco development. Palate still very fresh and resonant, well balanced and quite long on the dry tart finish. Some tannins still - so this will be good for decades. But very good now!
