Upon opening, all of the 5 Burgundies were quite reductive. All wines were double decanted, and also sat in the glass for a while. Luckily, no corked wines, Im on a roll, cant remember the last incorrect bottle, surely my luck is running thin now..
Wow, what a set of wines, a lot of contrasts and a LOT of quality. Annoyingly, the most expensive was the most profound wine, but the Mazis stood out as an excellent wine, especially considering the price.
Actually, on this night, the Gravieres was more different from the other Burgundies than the Rabaja. I guess this vintage from Jean Marc Vincent is very gourmand, would be very interesting to compare with the 2019 (which by reports seem more classical).
Mugneret Gibourg justifies their popularity, and even if QPR is a bit of a puzzle in Burgundy, the Ruchottes had that x-factor I seek from a bottle of wine.
All in all, a great showing for all the wines.
2010 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Double decanted 2h prior to dinner.
The nose is so deep and alluring. Dark profile, blackberries and forest floor. There was a subtle wood element on the nose that I found extremely attractive, pine needles was the closest I got to an actual scent.
The palate was quite different from the nose. Whereas the nose was a bit dark and mysterious, the palate was bright and cool, so focused and clean/precise. Medium bodied, sour cherry was the most prominent component. The finish is long, carried by the same sour cherries and spices.
The more I came back to this, the more I fell in love with the nose. Stunning!

2012 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin 98 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Double decanted 2h before dinner.
Enormously deep nose, yet so bright in character. This is just mind boggling complex, yet light on its feet. Difficult to pin down exact scents, but there are definitely a lot of berries here (crowberry, morell, lingonberry) and a freshness of premium vanilla and maybe a touch of cola.
The wine embodies the meaning of silky mouthfeel. Sweet, it covers the whole mouth, yet never jammy. An almost endless finish, bitter in character. That a wine can be so concentrated and deep while maintaining an impeccable elegance is beyond me..
The palate was at its best the first two hours in the glass, I don't believe it needs more cellaring. Stupendous wine..!
