Pearl of Burgundy gala dinner: From magnum. More structured and reserved than the ‘01 unsurprisingly, had much more oak / stuffing that needs time to integrate. Had the slightly candied fruit of new Faiveleys.

N: leaps out of the glass, very pronounced Ripe, defined pur Pinot fruit, still notable oak spice. P: very concentrated, so much fruit here that is yet to fully resolve with the oak. But the oak is well-handled and doesn't dominate. Very long, with smoke on the finish. Layered.

Huge nose, complex and deep. Wood and a hint of reductive aromas. Candied nuts, heather, wild strawberries.
Surprisingly, no feel of tannins, silky smooth and juicy. Sweet and bitter, some really dark chocolate. When the fruit fades, there is a long and bitter (forest floor also) finish that lingers on.
Wow, this wine was so complete. The nose had almost everything, the palate was so balanced, both the first attack and the finish. So impressed by this, was expecting it to be a bit more rough, but it remained elegant even though it was so deep and complex. Maybe because of low yields in 2016, the remaining fruit was of extreme quality? Either way, an amazing wine.

Pearl of Burgundy Gala Dinner 2024 (Four Seasons Hotel): From a magnum, beautiful powerful aromas of fruits with super purity. Still so youthful but yet drinking well at this stage.

Small pour served into Acker Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Pale ruby with purplish hues.
Whole bunch lychee skin and floral, stems and a little greeny meany.
Clear oak influence on palate.
92 points.
