White fruits in the bouquet. On the palate white fruits, some minerals, mild acidity and bitterness. Nicely dry and a bit drying in the finish. Ok terrace wine.
Light muscatel bouquet. On the palate light bodied and clean. Good acidity and nicely dry. Medium length. If you like dry muscatel this is a nice wine.
Slightly aromatic bouquet with yellow tropical fruits. Same on the palate. Ok acidity, some bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied. Ok wine but not really interesting.
Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla
The bouquet hardly shows anything. On the palate ripe yellow fruits, a touch of sweetness and ok acidity. The bitterness is a bit drying in the finish.
Interesting bouquet with some minerals. On the palate a good concentration, green plums, tart citrus and pleasantly drying in the finish. A bit special and not unpleasant.
Three months of oak. 50/50 American and French. So there is a touch of vanilla. For the rest very ripe red berry fruits, mainly raspberries, a lot of sweetness and also ok acidity. Modern made and juicy wine.
Tasted again and some additional notes: This time I wrote down dark and red cherries, a lot of sweetness and full bodied, but lacks refinement. Same score.
Minerals and smoke in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Volcanic impressions. Ok acidity. Elegant. A bit drying in the finish. Special and not unpleasant.
In the bouquet some earthiness and ripe red berry fruits. On the palate medium to full bodied, a lot of sweetness (especially for a Barbera) and good fresh acidity. Round tannin.
Creamy and round all over. Ripe mainly red fruits. I did not write more notes because the wine offers exactly what you expect of a Valpolicella. Ok and correct wine, but no real complexity.
Ripe fruits, good fresh acidity and bitterness. Some bell pepper impressions probably coming from the Cabernet Franc. Not really great, but certainly a well balanced and nice wine. Very early maturity now and no problem keeping this until 2017+
Full bodied and round with a lot of dark fruits and good oak. A lot of sweetness but in good balance with the acidity. Sweet spices. Pleasant and round tannin. Early maturity now and certainly pleasant until 2018+. 88 for today.
A textbook Priorat, full bodied, a lot of sweet herb and spices, good acidity and round tannin. Already a pleasure and around 2018+ definitely still nice. 89+ for now.
Beautiful touch of barnyard in the bouquet, a lot of very ripe dark forest fruits as well. Same on the palate. Very ripe fruits and concentrated. Good acidity and round tannin. A really nice wine. Ready now and the next few years.
Not a wine to write a book about. Light thin and supple. A lot of sweetness, mild acidity and tannin. No sharp (or interesting) edges at all. Correct wine though.
Completely open for business. Very ripe red berry fruits, a lot of sweetness and a good concentration. Overall not really interesting and just too easy.
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Beautiful bouquet with ripe red and dark berry fruits. On the palate very ripe fruits as well, a lot of sweetness, but in good balance with the acidity and soft tannin. Not the greatest Amarone, but certainly a very ok wine. 86 – 87
A nice white Port wine with pleasant sweetness and fresh acidity and also the impressions of a fino cherry. I am not an expert on wines like this, but this is a pleasant an clean wine. My score fwiw 87.
Not so many notes. New world style Chardonnay with ripe yellow tropical fruits, good oak and a good balance between acidity and sweetness, but for me personally an uninteresting qpr.
Ripe yellow tropical fruits, good oak, tasty and good bitterness in the finish. A well composed new world style Chardonnay, but overall not that interesting. For a price of around $40 not a good qpr.
In the bouquet some smoke and spiciness beside the rip red forest fruits. On the palate the same. Everything is soft. New world Pinot Noir and the touch of minerals makes it just above average.
Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits, beautiful oak and sweet spices. Same on the palate. Good balance between acidity, tannin and sweetness. Concentrated, complete and harmonious wine. Early maturity now and the next 4+ years.
Concentrated wine with ripe dark fruits, vanilla from the oak, a firm dose of sweetness and ok acidity. Round tannin and medium length. Ok and a bit rustic wine.
Very light red. There are ripe red fruits, some minerals and a lot of sweetness. Very supple with an ok balance between acidity and sweetness and mild tannin.
Juicy ripe red fruits, sweet spices and vanilla from good oak. Good balance between the acidity, sweetness and tannin which still has some bite. Early maturity now, but no problem to age this wine for a few more years.
Bouquet with red fruits, spices and fresh herbs as well as vanilla. On the palate juicy red and dark berry fruits and ok acidity and tannin. Ready now and the next few years. 86 - 87
Best wine I tasted of Baron de Ley in this tasting. The wine is harmonious and correct in all ways. Beautiful dose of oak, good fruits, a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness and round tannin with still a firm bite. Still quite youthful, but ok for drinking now and around 2017 this might even be a little better.
Just a few notes, but this wine is what you can expect from Taylor's; a beautifully round and harmonious Port wine with sweet dark forest fruits, pleasant acidity and round tannin. Is nice now and at least until 2020.
