RPM Steak - Chicago IL

Red berry and cherry aromas and flavors, very forward, very floral, very Vosne styled. Completely enticing aromas, similar flavors with good weight and depth. In its peak drinking window, the structure might not be there for longevity.

Bright start is very Chablis-like, but the vintage richness quickly emerges from there. Rich, long finish is again on the brighter side. Certainly very good with Grand Cru density, but not completely harmonious.

Very rich with so much concentration plus so many supporting elements - ripe apple, baked apple, buttered popcorn, dried apricot, and even more. I would err on the side of drinking this over the next few years vs medium-term cellaring because of the modest structure, but SO GOOD now.

Alongside the 2016. Ripe red fruit with fun spice that I thought was starting to get tired. Others enjoyed this much more.

More red than black fruit with very savory spice. Very good depth, slightly brooding now, which I find rare for 2016s these days. Needs time. I liked this more than most other people tonight.

Red and black cherry with meat and spice hints. Very well balanced, just slightly dilute (2017!) and not quite at Grand Cru density to me.

Good enough nose, but clearly dirty on the palate.

All black fruit, meaty. Still slightly backward with very good density. Opened a few hours before serving, but more air might have helped.

Still a little oaky, which didn't work perfectly with fully mature red fruit. Good+ weight and density, but certainly better to have opened this five years ago.

2016 Rose & Arrow Pinot Noir Highland Close 92 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains
Opened 6+ hours before tasting. Much like when tasted at the winery in Nov '21. Lots of black fruit, lots of power, this has plenty of coiled energy so needs more cellar time to fully unfold. There is also a slightly bitter finish that needs another year or two to soften.

2018 Rose & Arrow Pinot Noir The Black Walnut Worden Hill 93 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
Alongside Red Dust. Almost identical to when tasted in Nov 2021. Bright red fruit with spice everywhere ending with intense power. Clear upside from here. Asian Spice (the person) pointed out that this was even better with food than on its own.

2018 Rose & Arrow Pinot Noir Red Dust Worden Hill 94 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
Basically identical to when tasted at the winery in Nov 2021. So much like the Black Walnut, but even brighter textures supporting the bright red fruit, resulting in a longer finish. Kept getting bigger and better with more time in glass.
A second bottle was half finished, so I re-inserted the cork and refrigerated it for almost two full days, at which point it lost some of its brightness and luster, but was almost the same as the night opened.

2018 Rose & Arrow Pinot Noir Hopewell Hills 91 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
More black than red fruit, all ripe, dense and meaty with plenty of power. Surprisingly accessible and balanced given the density and ripeness. Very similar to when tasted in November.

2018 Rose & Arrow Pinot Noir Gathered Stones Hopewell Hills 91 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
A slight step up vs Hopewell in the next glass, the two were quite similar but Gathering Stones has slightly more lift.

2018 Rose & Arrow Pinot Noir Stone Creek 94 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Certainly the most concentration of tonight's wines. Complex array of red and black fruit with bright textures, some firm tannins in the middle, ending with a long finish. Similar to when tasted in November, but tonight's bottle was opened 8 hours before tasting, helping make it so much more accessible. A wine I would be thrilled to re-visit in another few years, 94-95 point potential.

2018 Rose & Arrow Pinot Noir TOUCHSTONE
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
This also had been opened in the morning, but I was told 24 hours would have helped more. A charming wine indeed, so elegant and finessed with plenty of black and red fruit and subtle spice. The textures are the star here, with very silky tannins, but those tannins are fairly big. To some extent, I think a little new oak might have given this even more, finding the wine to be like a beautiful woman without any makeup... absolutely beautiful but not as perfect as possible... if that is your goal. But that's just one man's opinion. I hope to try this again. 93-95 point potential.

Second bottle was much better. Much like when enjoyed last year, this was rich while balanced, with red and black cherry, Asian five spice and faint sweet notes. Good density throughout, even if slightly lighter in the middle. Upside from here.
