Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2016 Weingut Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibenberg 92 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Tasting note is based on usually two different bottles. All bottles were coming straight out of the winery cellar in pristine condition.
Clear medium golden color. Clean, dense and deep nose with a nice smokiness.
On the palate creamy, medium+ acidity, yellow sweet fruit (Marille), white pepper. Good balance and rather elegant, not broad. Fresh, dense with a good tension. Good length. Drinks nicely now, but has certainly good potential for further development.

Warm vintage. Bottle one a bit broader and lacks tension, bottle two a bit more fresh and energetic. Clear, amber golden color. Clean nose, quite closed and muted. Lacks acidity, you can feel the warm vintage. A bit hot, but also deep and dense. Classic Veltliner notes, some white pepper. Good length. 89-90

  • 1999 Weingut Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibenberg 91 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Tasting note is based on usually two different Magnum bottles. All bottles were coming straight out of the winery cellar in pristine condition.
Clear amber color. Fully mature nose, caramel, some nail polish remover. Both bottles were to me a bit past peak, but still interesting. Very good balance, harmonious, some floral notes, caramel, yellow stone fruit and bees wax. Good length. Even though still not really my cup of tea, way more interesting than the 2007 vintage.

Tasting note is based on usually two different bottles. All bottles were coming straight out of the winery cellar in pristine condition.
Clear, deep golden color. Nose with a lot of ripe apricot, crushed stones and some slightly oxidized notes. On the palate it can’t deny the warm vintage. A bit broader and bolder, probably some botrytized grapes, a bit hot and it lacks a bit of tension. Creamy texture, nice complexity. Good length.

  • 1992 Weingut Knoll Riesling Auslese Ried Schütt 94 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Tasting note is based on one Magnum bottle. All bottles were coming straight out of the winery cellar in pristine condition.
First “real” sweet wine vintage after several years. Approx. 500-600l produced. Clear, medium amber color. Lovely nose with Marille and fine vanilla. Most lean and precise wine of this flight. Fine combinationof sweetness and acidity. Beautiful balance and harmony, also a lovely tension and pressure. Very present now. At full peak. But this bottle would easily age another decade. Very long and lingering. 94
