Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2020 Emrich-Schönleber Riesling "Mineral" trocken 90 Points

    Germany, Nahe

The nose was expressive and crystalline with fresh tones of green apples, peaches, pears, limes, lemon zest, crushed rocks, white flowers, jasmine, and some green herbs. There is good depth with a spring-like take that is quite enjoyable. The feel is Medium bodied with racy, high acidity. The acidity has a lot of cut and sharpness to the point that it is showing just a bit too sharp right now. The feel is is lithe and fresh with the nose carrying though on the palate beautifully. This likely needs a few years to fully come together and fully show itself. There are a lot of vibrant citrus fruits with just the bit of racy minerality that makes this lovely.

  • 2018 Tissot (Bénédicte et Stéphane / André et Mireille) Poulsard Arbois Vieilles Vignes 88 Points

    France, Jura, Arbois

This is so Jura in all sorts of ways from pop and pour. There is a bit of VA on the nose while showing off a good bit of funk and savory tones of dark red cherries, sour raspberries, violets, earth, tobacco, spice tones, and worn leather. This shows off good depth but it is just on the side of being in line than turning into a mess. The feel is Medium bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and youthful, medium tannins. There is some stiffness to the tannins that may never resolve. The acidity isn't as volatile as the nose though the funkiness carries through. This could certainly use a few years to fully settle in and if it's a "clean" bottle, then I can definitely see this adding more depth and complexity.

  • 2006 Bernard Burgaud Côte-Rôtie 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

This was decanted for a few hours and it opened up beautifully. The second you put your nose to the glass, this is just on the right side of dirty Cote-Rotie with loads of bacon fat, black olives, white pepper, black cherries, raspberries, licorice, crushed rocks, earth notes, funk, leather, and tobacco notes. This shows off some lovely depth with a bit of savoriness to the tones and an understated richness to the nose. The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and refined, medium+ tannins. The structure has predominately pulled back while the feel shows off a lot of depth and balance with just a bit of dirtiness that makes you want more. This is right in its pomp and there are many years left ahead.

  • 2000 Rotllan Torra Priorat Amadis 89 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

The nose is licorice-laced and probably working on the downslide with black cherries, black raspberries, plums, currants, tobacco leaf, spices, violets, and some crushed rocks. This shows off good depth, but just lacks that extra level to really drive it. The feel is Full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. While the structure has pulled back, there is a slight bitterness to the tannins and the feel is lacking just a little bit on the mid-palate. This felt like its on the downslope of its life. It is still really tasty with a classic Priorat profile.

  • 2018 Winderlea Pinot Noir Crawford-Beck Vineyard 91 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

The nose is a little tight at first and took about two hours to unravel. There is a lot of bright red fruits with red cherries, plums, raspberries, bright red berries, rose petals, cranberries, baking spices, herbs, and crushed rocks. While the nose shows a slightly fleshy side to the fruit, there is a real lovely underlying minerality. The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. The feel has a bit of baby fat and roundness with an expressive quality. This absolutely needs another 4+ years to round into form. It opened up well after it was open for hours, but it still felt like it was holding back just a smidge.

  • NV Agrapart Champagne Les 7 Crus Brut 90 Points

    France, Champagne

The nose is fresh and balanced with apples, pears, brioche, biscuits, white flowers, peaches, quince, meyer lemons, saline, and some dough notes. The Medium bodied feel shows off the balance of the nose with crisp, high acidity that shows off excellent integration. This is always a fun Agrapart and it continues to be just that. The higher end bottlings are more serious, but this isn’t priced like those and is a perfect introduction to the house.

  • 2017 Flaneur Pinot Noir Flanerie Vineyard 92 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge

This bottle was exactly the same as the one I had last summer. I really dig Flaneur and this was no different. This is for those that enjoy a little more lipstick and sleekness to their Oregon Pinot while still craving acidity

  • 2009 Johan Vineyards Pinot Noir Three Barrel 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Right away, this is very giving and lovely. This has a sense of being that is quite alluring with raspberries, bright red cherries, plums, violets, baking spices, cinnamon, pomegranate, red currants, and rose petals. The Medium/full bodied feel is silky and a bit dense with well integrated, medium acidity. This feels like it is drinking at its peak and is well worth opening up!
