2021 Coulter Wines Chardonnay C1
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Ooh, that odd chicken, citrus and herbs thing, sweet spice, slight struck match, peaches, slight butter, clean nose. Medium plus intensity acidity is slightly sour, and this is more citrus than stone fruit on the palate. Hmm

2021 Coulter Wines Sangiovese C²
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Clean, slightly metallic, red cherry fruit. In the mouth it’s juicy with medium plus intensity acidity, cherry, fleshy, plentiful tannins are chalky, alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm

2021 Coulter Wines Pinot Noir C³

Smells a little sour, whole bunch, notes plums, and cherries. Juicy, savoury, lacks a little acidic surprisingly, similar fruit profile, slight alcohol warmth.

Slightly gamey, funk with savoury red berry fruit, cedar, slightly perfumed top notes. Talc textured tannins, pretty fruit, juicy, Pleasant.

Slightly gamey, a little cherry (though the fruit is quite muted) medium plus intensity acidity, fresh but with chalky tannins. Okay.

Ashy whole bunch, pretty cherry fruit, a little peppery spice. Sourly juicy, fleshy, easy. Nice Gamay typicity for me. Yum

2021 Coulter Wines Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon

Medium plus intensity aromas of stalks, red and black fruit, a little blackcurrant, sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity on the palate, red and black fruits, tannins contained, handles its 15.03% alcohol well. Travels long. Nicely done

2015 Martin Muthenthaler Riesling Vießlinger Ried Bruck

Initially a little soapy note, slight kerosene, savoury meaty underpin to smashed lime. Medium plus intensity acidity, fresh, a little stone fruit joins with time and a creamy, slightly leesy note. Nice

Waxy citrus, savoury, a little leesy note, juicy, savoury; the lees make themselves known on the palate and rather dominate proceedings. It’s a little too much for me.

2019 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre La Vigne Blanche

The immediate impression is of gooseberry and slight struck match with an earthy underpin. In the mouth it’s juicy, stony minerality, a little structure, that struck match quality - all in all more about structure than fruit.

2020 Venon & Fils Chablis L'Expression

Medium minus intensity aromas show a little wild ferment, a little peach and citrus, chalky minerality, touch hard on the palate, a little bitter on the finish and the fruit is slightly muted.

Savoury, peach, stone fruit, a little almost bees wax note, savoury and quite concentrated on the palate dense, lacks fruit. Hmm.

Low intensity, agitation shows wild ferment, quite savoury notes, a little spice. In the mouth it’s sourly juicy, savoury, tending to richness but lacks a little fruit for me.

2019 Hirsch Vineyards Pinot Noir Reserve
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Polished, clean, concentrated, black cherry over a smidge of cream and the tiniest hint of wood glue. Densely concentrated, silky, talc textured tannins persist long with the fruit, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. That volatility is a concern, but this is rather pleasant.

Pencil shavings, savoury, meaty, blackcurrant and berry, a little volatility. Juicy, a little sourness to the fruit, textured burr on the mid palate, fresh, simple. Okay.

Plums, red over blackcurrant a little wood glue, sweet spice, it’s a little tarry on the palate with a smidge of liquorice, tight grainy tannins, long. Time. Okay.

Medium minus intensity aromas are meaty, savoury, dark berried fruit, a little perfumed note. Juicy, savoury, those dark hued fruits, a little peppery note, slightly chalky tannins persist, touch of sourness on the finish but this is quite nice.

Lashings of American oak lends vanilla and a smidge of wood glue over strawberries and cream. Palate a reflection of the nose, sluttilly enjoyable.

Savoury, slightly meaty, oak more restrained than the Alberdi, red hued fruits, a touch of tobacco leaf, slight vanilla. In the mouth it’s juicy, savoury, fleshy, with red fruits, soft tannins, youthful simplicity. Pretty good.

Sweet spice, touches of vanilla, perfumed, pretty fruit, strawberries, and cream. On the palate it’s rich, balanced fruit and tannins – the latter and silky and woody, the former red hued and fresh. Long. Nice.

An impression of brooding concentration, red berried fruit, good quality oak, vanilla. In the mouth it’s juicy with medium plus intensity acidity, slight raisins join the red fruits, that vanilla in support, talc textured tannins, long, silky, and supple, very good indeed.

Tar and roses, cherry, a little dried orange peel, pretty nose. Medium plus intensity acidity and medium plus intensity tannins, initially muted then the fruit comes to the party, showing as per the nose. Balanced. Charming. Lovely.

Medium minus intensity aromas of sour cherry, very slight wood glue, a little pot pourri, toast but, on the nose, it’s all quite subdued. The palate is interesting; fresh, the tannins fairly huge but with unwieldy alcohol lending warmth on the finish. Hmm.
