Yellow, moderately lively. Dry, medium weight. Wheaty and herbal-Meunier? Not a lot of fruit. I didn't enjoy this as much as a bottle earlier this year.
First time I've had this. Fine bead, frothy. Medium bodied, just off dry to my taste. Excellent minerality and bitter citrus. Penetrating, long, and lively. I much preferred this to the Clos Lanson from the same vintage.
Magnum. Medium yellow. Glorious mixture of mature Riesling aromas and classic stone fruit and black tea. Authoritative feel and great drive despite not being too dense or heavy. Finely etched but beautifully round and filled out at the same time. Dry and long. I hadn't really thought of the '99 Frédéric Emile as being a particularly strong vintage, but bottles over the last 4 or 5 years have convinced me otherwise. This was probably the best it has ever shown for me-just stunning tonight.
Medium yellow. Light weight. Moderate residual sugar for a Kabinett. Crisp yellow apple fruit with good acidity for the year but not a ton of stone. Very good.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Fine ruby color. Aromas of red fruit and pomegranate. Medium weight, noticeable but not overwhelming oak. Lovely mix of ripe fruit, spice, and soil in the mouth with pretty gentle finishing tannins. Excellent but as with other M-M wines, I was left a bit disappointed with the outcome compared to what might have been given the outstanding site. Just comes up a bit short in intensity and texture, although the wood was toned down compared to the 2015 version of this we had earlier this year.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Ruby with fading only at the extreme edge. Poised nose of black fruit and soil. A little backward and tannic in the mouth, yet regal feel and balance of all components. Deep, refined, and without any rough edges. A treat to take a peek at this in its early stages. It should be special down the road and age well for another 25 years. Beautiful and distinguished.
Deep yellow. Full but not unctuous. Tropical fruits, moderate sweetness, and little to no botrytis. This was a very good late harvest Gewürztraminer that thankfully did not have the overbearing florality and high tones of so many of these wines.
