Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2012 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep golden colour with an amber hue. Very round and soft nose with some bees wax.
On the palate bold and powerful. Medium acidity. 14% abv that are well integrated. Spicy, bees wax, floral, white blossoms. Round and balanced, but also with a nice tension and depth. Long, fruity and waxy finish. Potential for another decade or even more. 93+

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2011 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep golden colour. Surprisingly fresh nose! Some citrus notes, honey and floral notes. Really nice. On the palate also a bit fresher than 2012, but also very hot. You can feel the 14,5% abv and the lack of enough acidity to handle this alcohol level. Otherwise some nice apricot, floral notes, spices and bees wax. Very creamy, deep and dense. Long, but also hot on the finish. Certainly a very good wine, but for me the weakest of the whites this evening. 91-92

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2013 Domaine des Tours Vaucluse Blanc 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vaucluse

Popped and poured. Clear, deep golden colour. Nose reminded me of an off-dry, ripe Molitor Riesling Auslese: dried, candied pineapple, dried apricots and some floral notes. Beautiful.
On the palate the same impression: Not fully dry, more off-dry, botrytis notes, peach, apricot, sweet ripe fruit, spicy. Creamy and balanced, good length. 91-92 Potential for another decade. Fantastic PQR!

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep golden colour. Beautiful smoky nose, very complex and deep with some ripe fruit and lime peel.
On the palate very fresh and completely different from 2011 and 2012. Never fat or chubby. Wonderful tension, great structure and balance. Very long and complex finish. Way better bottle than my previous one. Close to greatness. 94-95

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2005 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep golden colour. Nose with fine ripe lemon, spicy and fresh. On the palate it tasted like a baby version of 2009. It has everything that 2009 has, but a tiny bit reduced. Never the less a wonderful white Hermitage with a great potential. 93+

  • 2014 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep purple ruby color. Fine red fruit, some speck and smoky herbaceous notes in the nose.
On the palate fresh, rather cool and lean. Some barn notes, high tannin and acidity. Long and complex. Still too young and with good potential for another decade. 92++

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep ruby, glowing colour. Classic Syrah nose, spicy, bold and deep.
On the palate round, very balanced, beautiful structure. High tannin and acidity that balances the 14,5% abv very well. Deep and dense with a long, fruity and spicy finish. Potential for some more decades. 94++

Flight 8 (1 Note)

  • 2010 Château des Tours Vacqueyras 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vacqueyras

Popped and poured. Clear, ruby-tawny color. Very deep, fine and concentrated nose with lots of ripe red fruit. On the palate the impression continues. Very deep and fruity, high acidity, only 13,5% abv, very juicy and joyful to drink. But also quite balanced, round and with a good length. 93. For the original price a stunner!

Flight 9 (1 Note)

  • 2012 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep ruby, glowing colour. Classic Syrah nose, spicy, bold and deep, speck and some plum.
This is for me a mix of 2013 and 2009! Fine, high acidity and high, mellow tannin. Fresh, good pressure and tension, lots of fine red fruit, elegant, round and juicy. Long and lingering finish. 93++

Flight 10 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Double decanted some hours before. Clear, deep ruby, glowing colour. Amazing nose, super complex and intense, lots of fine red fruit, spices, herbs.
On the palate with an amazing pressure and tension! High, ripe acidity and tannin. Juicy fruit, spices, herbs, wonderful texture and structure and a long, complex finish. Still very young and IMHO not even close to its full peak. Needs probably another decade. 95++
