Introduction

Four of us got together for a little mid-week cheer at one of the fun newer restaurants in Mpls (DM, CS, SS,KB). We had a very diverse group of wines which works splendidly with the breadth of the small plate style menu at All Saints. Great night of wine, food and laughter.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • NV Bérêche et Fils Champagne Brut Réserve 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Light gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. Some "old guy" really liked this, and I guess I have to agree. This bottle might have been one of the best to date, really bright with red apple and quince, spices, a touch of ginger and ocean brine on the nose. The palate is really well defined, crisp and pure with the same red apple fruit, lifted, spiced apple tart, ginger snap, loads of brine and minerality. This has great focus. 92+ to 93pts tonight.

  • 2017 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Chavignol Rosé 92 Points

France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre

Pale blood orange color. Drank a glass over an hour. Well this put a smile on our faces. I guess we need to start drinking more Sancerre Rose, or least more Cotat. This was quite beguiling with Meyer lemon, blood orange, flint, light floral notes on the nose. The palate shines with cherry, lemon-lime, creamy a nice texture and flinty minerality. Really a great rose. Loved it; 92+ to 93pts.

  • 2008 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Medium plus dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. This was one of the infamous '08 Cheviillon's stolen for a song back in the day. Dang, its actually been 10 years since I've had this. This was filled with sous bois to start, pretty high toned at that, somewhat vegetal as well. It opened further to show more typical spice notes and some floral tones while the sous bois fell more into place. The palate had all the same qualities, needing to shake it off a bit at first. Black cherry, black tea, baked plum, blackberry, medium-full bodied, some wood shows, black pepper, mineral and firmish tannins.

  • 2004 Giovanni Manzone Barolo Le Gramolere 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. Geez, its been 10 years since that last time on this one too. We need to get out more J. I found this really captivating tonight. Dried flowers on the nose, with dried spice, cassis, black cherry, a little medicinal note with a touch of cherry cough syrup, smoke, tar. The palate has depth, black raspberry, cassis, black cherry, coarse tobacco and lots of tar. The tannins have really loosened and this has come together nicely. Glad to have a couple of my own . 93+pts.
