I meant the rather impromptu (and financially foolish) decision to upgrade the last leg of my flight back to Sydney from the UK...as it's me I then proceeded to try all of the wines available at the lounge and on the flight
I thought the fizz was surprisingly pleasant...all other wines were under enomatic
The Clarendelle was the pick of the bunch here and showed pleasingly well
a surprisingly indifferent selection of wines for a business class offering - Qatar was considerably better - but from the perspective of returning to work the next day the upgrade was a good decision
2016 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Essentiel Cuvée Reservée
France, Champagne
bread yeast, slight lemon citrus, a little green apple - proves more biscuity on the palate, juicy side of sour, green apple, surprisingly generous. Nice

2019 Pikes Riesling Traditionale
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
'classic' Australian lime and lime cordial, little kerosene underpin on the nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, lime and lemon with a touch of peel in support, softens a little on the finish. Hmm

2018 Stonier Chardonnay
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula
peach, butter, slight struck match and lemon underpin, very slight meaty wild ferment notes. And the palate is very much a reflection of the nose, juicy acidity lends freshness to the stone fruit with a creamy/buttery core. Negligible burr. Perfectly pleasant. The extra couple of years in the bottle have probably helped this out more than a little bit.

2018 Teusner Shiraz 'The Riebke' Northern Barossa
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
black and blue berry, creamy notes, polished oak offers a little chocolate, sweet spice. Juicy acidity, sweet spice, a little liquorice joins the fruit and oak notes, silky integrated slightly woody tannins prove softly engaging. S'alright, simple, easy
