France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. Both rich and a powerhouse, this showcasing a broad cross-section of red and black cherry with a well spice background. Not even close to ready, but pleasure already manages to clearly come through.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. Big and dense, this seems slightly awkward and angular right now, but with so much great, and really great potential, 2024 forward.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Walkaround tasting. Library release. Lighter character for les Cailles, but good length. austere right now, seemingly in its in-between, shut-down mode at present. 88 points this afternoon, but patience is required, like for many 2012s.
Walkaround tasting. Steely and bright with orchard fruit, showing very good concentration even if slightly austere. Classic, oystershelly textures expand from middle forward to its long finish. Better from 2025-2035.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Walkaround tasting. Old school style, with lots of pure fruit in harmony with everything else. Maybe not quite the most dense of Grand Crus, but easily charming for the next decade+.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Walkaround tasting. Lots here, some ripe, some underripe, not perfectly harmonized, yet with good depth. Needs some more time, but there is interesting 88-90 point potential if it comes together better.
Walkaround tasting. Lots here for a wine this young. Fresh and dried orchard fruit with lemon custard. Also very good concentration for wine at this level. Wonderful now, better in another year or three.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune
Walk around tasting. The power of the 2018 vintage, but also the structure. Very firm now, this will need more patience than I might have for Savigny Village.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Walkaround tasting. Black and blue fruit with wonderful concentration for its level, without the ultra firm tannins too common for the vintage. Getting close to its peak drinking window. I was impressed, and don't recall ever tasting this wine in any previous vintage.
Walkaround tasting. Starts with a sense of ripeness and fun, then this expands and quickly picks up steam and weight. Better today vs when tasted 6 months ago at Jadot.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages
Walkaround tasting. Red fruited start, moving towards a black fruited finish with enough substance and good (enough) depth. Fun now. We were told this is from NSG Vaucrains, but that can't be true; it is in fact from the Comblanchien vineyard "Vaucrain," which is one vineyard south of Premeaux.
Walk around tasting. Ripe apple and pear with good density. This almost seems simple to start, then goes on and on to a long finish. 89-90 point potential.
Walkaround tasting. Ripe orchard fruit start, some intriguing bitterness and mineral character in the middle with a bright finish. Good enough weight, better length. Close to balanced already, better from 2024-2035.
Walkaround tasting. Ripe fruit with meaty aromas, much less forthcoming or interesting on palate. I wonder if yields might have been higher than ideal.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Walkaround tasting. Firm and big, this is both very "Gevrey" and very "2019." I like the wine's volume, but find it a bit more brawny and structured than ideal.
Walk around tasting. Another rich and fleshy start with lots going on, but i found it slightly disjointed right now on its finish. I thought it was good today (88 points), but am hopeful that it will be better in another year or three.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru
Walk around tasting. More red vs black fruits, lots here starting off as fun and easy, but firms up on a long-ish finish. The ends seems less fun and slightly brooding, but also shows intriguing potential.
Walk around tasting. Very pretty and elegant start showcases red cherry and berry. Similar palate is slightly less forward or accessible, with a very "Pommard" mouth-coating textures and tannins. Needs cellar time.
Walk around tasting. An intense richness with floral and toasted walnut notes. There is a wonderful, precise, and persistent linear finish that I really enjoyed.
Walk around tasting. Bigger, richer, and ripe, but particularly nicely balanced already. My third time already tasting this young wine, and it has better each time.
Walkaround tasting. Also my third time tasting this wine, and it continues to demonstrate a ripe and muscular form, teasing us with its potential, but not worth opening a bottle until 2030 or later. 90-91 point potential.
