Cocoa dusted rosebuds, milk chocolate, pineapple stalk. Palate is tight and dark fruited, some cinnamon bark, tannins resolving and not in your face but some way to go. Good but not quite as classy as its flight mate.

Nose starts a little muted, with some air some mulled plums and black cardamom emerges. Some espresso and cassis too with time. Palate also tight to start, shows a little ankle with some time; real potential here. My 3rd favourite wine of the night.

Twiggy, reedy nose. Deep camphor and aniseed character. Palate is slightly medicinal, more aniseed; modern, not really my thing.

Talc and Maraschino cherry. Quince jelly. Palate is young and refined. There's some creme de cassis lift and more cherry flesh. Even with air, this doesn't open out that much. One to revisit in 5 years.

Blue fruited nose. Quink ink and gazpacho. Also a flashback to childhood with some coconut mushroom sweet on the nose too. Palate starts short and little tight, some air opens things somewhat. There is a meatiness that reminds me of steak and kidney pudding, definitely something offaly there. Overall I really like this, by a short head my wine of the night.

Chocolate, some Marc de Champagne spiritiness, a little lactic. Palate peppery, needs time. Tannins on the prickly side.

Savoury, meaty, cardamom nose. Dark fruit and espresso nose. A little gravy granule character. Slightly simple.

Marron glace, red fruits, some lifted redcurrant. Palate refined. Tannins more resolved than many others in our line up.

Nose really has that Cab Franc graphite character more than some of the others. Palate is long and spicy, so well balanced. Cracking stuff and my second favourite wine of the the night.

Pencil case and crab apple jelly on the nose with a real interesting meatiness too. Some more greenness and red fruits on the palate. Very good but a smidge behind the 1998 for me.

A treat at the end of the evening, absolutely in-character as a joyous fully mature Riesling. The nose has a charming torn tarragon leaf character and a touch of butter mintoe, palate not that sweet in the grand scheme of things. Lovely.

Creamy lemon and lime posset. Some freshly planed ginger and little tonic water on the nose. Palate is very detailed. Lime oil, chewy, chalky. Cracking
