Beechworth and Glenrowan
Tasted Saturday, May 20, 2023 by chatters with 43 views
This morning we shot out to Glenrowan to pop to Baileys then zipped back to Beechworth to Traviarti before having a disorganised/unplanned afternoon and supper out
I'd only really been exposed to Baileys Shiraz, mostly the 1920's though not many times. Lovely cellar door, very old school wine-making, the fortified wines were impressive.
lovely to meet Simon, listen to his wine making philosophy and try his wines; especially the rather impressive Nebbiolo
With zero breakfast the pizzas at Bridge Road Brewers proved more than pleasant. They were accompanied by a couple of glasses of local vino...
After the drive to Baileys, the excitement of Traviarti and lunch we were a bit demotivated to drive around so walked the solid 16 meters to the Eldorado Cellar Door right next door to the brewery
Because I know Phil likes fortified I dragged him to Pennyweight in the hope that he would enjoy the vintage port. He didn't (it wasn't very nice) but the Ruby was very good so it was worth the trip
Phil booked the Empire hotel (I think at Stef's recommendation) for our last supper and we were extremely impressed by how good the food was. When we finished we toddled back to our accommodation and I did my very best to drink everything left in the house.
Another lovely day of pottering around but a general sense of fatigue gripped as the afternoon unfolded...nana naps were grabbed before we headed out for supper...

Popped and poured. Super reductive, dark fruits seems to struggle to open up, beings to show some meaty savoury notes. With time the black fruits grows but remains non-delineated. Medium plus intensity acidity, tight, chewy woody tannins, muted non-delineated (again) black fruits, Hmm.

NV Baileys of Glenrowan Founder's Series Classic Topaque

Raisins, touch of alcohol prickle, toffee over caramel, plenty of oaky sweet spice, fresh acid helps with the sweet (and probably lusciously high) sugar levels, lacks complexity.

Medium plus intensity acidity, dried orange, textured grip is slightly woody, saline, dried fruits in support, tends to lusciously sweet with alcohol warmth on the very long finish.
