We have been drinking this wine for a few years now and our love for it varies ( Papies 92-96) as some days it works better than others. Very much a Sauvignon Blanc nose and balaye and with a smoky edge from the toasty oak which in a way dominates the style of the wine at this stage and hopefully this will evolve nicely as time goes buy. An impressive wine for sure and the name helps and thus better serve this with the label visible than blind . Solid 92 and this has an easy 20 years ahead.
Bruised apple feel, soft caramel and the acidity to go with it. Soft rich vinous feel but that bruised apple feel just dominates all along. Probably better one had this sooner than later too.
100% Chardonnay , bottled July 2015 and disgorged in August 2018 with of course no dosage.
Impressive and such a great surprise and albeit usually we are not impressed by their wines ( Is their Clos des Epenaux the perennial wine of disappointment or is it just our luck) this worked beautifully. The 2009 ripeness with the relative shyness and austerity of Volnay produced something pretty. Earthy, well evolved, harmonious and just worked so well. Easy 92 and we would not risk ageing this a lot.
St joseph done proper . This was double decanted for a good 2 hours and really helps. Still on the fruit side, rich, good use of oak, well round and polished with a lovely savoury side. Some oaky dynamic , remmenantes of the élevage style of Guigal but all well integrated and with wine very much owns the oaky dynamic. A solid 91
It’s been 4 years since we had this and back then it was all over and unimpressive ( Papies 90) but at this stage , 4 years on this is magnificent and just stunning. Savoury, soft rich fruit, smoky edge and ever so elegant and with purity, a lot less of oak here vs Guigal and shows better younger and albeit this has an easy decade of improvement it is just exceptional now. 94-95 and worth the price .
Young and every so dark fruited, juicy ripe, soft oaky dynamic, spice and although round and polished still ever so fruit driven. Maybe a touch of tomato but mostly dark fruits and this now is starting to show a bit of secondary and savoury side, fpgive this more time unless rich fruit is what one enjoys. 91-92 for now but full of promise.
An ok sweet wine. Caramel, rich jam, orange marmalade better and that sort of wine across. Arrived at the end of a long wine flight so we are not doing it justice but still was not really one that impressed the table. 87
