This started out a bit awkward and harsh but it did improve. Toast, lots of berry, a fuller-bodied champagne with substantial read fruit and heavier weight.
Drank a small glass over an hour. Middle of the road stylistically, with some California and Burgundy qualities. Not as impressive as I thought/hoped it would be, obviously still nice. Maybe the Bouchard gave this wine difficult competition in the flight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Drank a small glass over an hour. The nose and initial palate seem rich and meaty, but the palate turns lighter on the finihs. Tobacco, funk and earth. This seems at peak.
Drank a small glass over an hour. This seemed rustic and definitely old school, with leather and plum. Not the best showing for me and the bottle seemed a bit warm.
Drank a small glass over an hour. This seemed like an old school Napa cab, with all the standard hallmarks, funk, red fruit, saddle leather, earth, some berries.
Drank a small glass over 45 minutes. Not that different from a bottle 8 years ago, and its quite impressive that Suduiraut pulled this off in 2006. Relatively sweet and rich, but there is a lot of spicy botrytis here. It strays from a GREAT Sauternes by being a touch lacking in complexity and attack, but man, still quite pleasurable.
2004 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 96 Points
France, Champagne
Drank a small glass over 45 minutes. This is as good as Cristal ever has been, super creamy, almond, brioche, energetic, great!
