Martin Wine Cellar, Metairie, LA

A tasting of many top wines released recently at Martin Wine Cellar in Metairie, LA. I don't have any detailed notes from any of the wines, but have my scrawled notes converted to short blurbs with my scores here.
A phenomenal table filled with plenty of excellent though financially inaccessible wines, this was clearly my favorite flight.
An interesting rosato, a solid value Vin du Pays, and a classic Chianti Classico dot this flight.
A couple of Alsace wines whose unexpected sweetness clearly speak to the 2006 vintage's bad weather, and some miscellaneous American wines.
A few of the top cult wines from the US are presented at this table, along with a single vineyard Pinot and its less interesting little brother.
I tried some wines here I will not be able to afford bottles of for many years, and am glad I paid the small $30 fee to get in to the tasting. I have heard rumors of a 1er/2ieme cru Sauternes tasting coming up in January there - I can't wait.
2005 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Nice French oak influence, smooth, with a long finish and a bit of crisper acidity than other bottles in this flight. 91+

2005 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
A bit more oak than I was expecting, but it is well integrated. Very well-balanced wine with a great long finish. I wonder how this'll be in a few years?

2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses Blanc 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Les oak than other Burgundies in this flight - but very good, with a richness to the palate that fills the mouth without being fat. There is a hint of some kind of aromatic compound on the palate - mint grass, perhaps? Excellent wine.

2005 Henri Boillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Wine of the flight. This wine shows what you're SUPPOSED to do with oak, showing a very well-integrated nose and palate with an interesting hint of buttered toast, citrus zest, and calm tones, with a very long finish. Heavenly.

2006 Remoissenet Père et Fils Puligny-Montrachet 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
A bit more toast and caramel flavors than the other wines in this flight, which is an interesting American oak-like characteristic. Still, this wine has a very nice backbone, and I think it'll last 20+ years. 91+

2006 Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Textbook Volnay - earthy pine straw, sap, spearming on the background of this very tight wine that will surely improve with age, at least 10 years.

2005 Henri Boillot Meursault 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
This one may be 93+ in the future. It has a crisp acidity that will support it for solid bottle aging. The wine has a nice rich yellow corn on the cob taste atop beautiful light wood, with a tad of bitterness that nicely offsets other deeper and heavier tones in the background.
