Nice ruby / garnet, bricking, dried fruit on nose, subtle, slightly herbal. Light-medium body, still holding acid, smooth subtle tannins. An excellent mature claret,

Much younger looking than the Mouton, clear dried mushroom, full body, high tannin but sits very well, coats the mouth luxuriously. A spicy blackcurrent note, the tannins tighten a little on the finish.

Amazing nose, dried plump sultana and prune, with a subtle meaty backbone. Great lenth but finish shows alcohol.

Youthful violet. Nice vibrant fruit a little simple but still youthful, nice tannic outline.

Very bright acid, enormous purity of fruit, soft cherry and raspberry with a denser stuffing, medium body. Very clean.

More meaty, horsey, a little rustic, the brett takes something from the brightness of fruit of the 1989, something not quite right on the finish, almost metallic. On this ocassion the 1989 showed better to my mind, but I have had other 1989's from the same batch more in the mould of this 1990.

Very herbal, black pepper, almost menthol, not a million miles from the '83 La Chapelle, quite prominent oak tannins, complex light fruit.

Greater purity of fruit, some tar showing. Oak profile seems a little different to the 1991, the same dried herbal and slight menthol notes.

Glorious marmalade / light amber, great depth, a backing of spicy oak but layered in front is toffee, caramelised orange, roast pineapple and buttermilk. Fascinating wine, still a bracing acid backbone, a lifetime to live still. I like this more than the 1988 tried on two occasions.

Nice light-mid cherrywood. Slutty attack, noticable alcohol, some thinness and a hint of VA, but spreads on the palate, very sweet toffee and walnut notes, exceptional.

1976 Diebolt-Vallois Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Millésimé 95 Points
France, Champagne
Very strong mousse, glorious light gold. Bright clear attack, no hint of oxidation, very youthful, not unlike a 1988. Slight brioche notes but an overriding apricot / grapefruit intense fruit. Great depth. This gave more pleasure than a glass of Krug MV I had earlier in the day.

1985 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 90 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Very fresh, well perfumed, not overpowering or overly rich, some cotton wool elements and a little dried apricot, no oilyness or prominent alcohol.
